nope it was very good for mid range attacks and got stomped when it faced a body to body fighter,plus it was a SM rasengan not a regular one which is a lot stronger.
plus it served a good role in showing off the epicness of SM.

These explosions have already shown to be dodgeable. It's not as if it was that great of a feat

Large explosion means nothing at all. You can see similar feats when he was fighting Kakashi's clone along side with Tendo, but on the next page, you can see Kakashi's clone was perfectly fine and even only one-shoted him if not Tendo(Rinnengan share vision):
