Both Indra and Ashura failed at their goals and ended up killing each other thats why they continue to reincarnate, and they will continue to reincarnate until they make their peace.

I don't believe Ashura was a jinchuriki. The manga never mentioned that. I don't think he would have to become a jinchuriki to be strong, otherwise hashirama would have needed it. And we all know hashirama was basically piggybacking off Ashuras Awakened senju power( first senju).

This is even more blatant when Hagoromo says to Naruto that the younger brother practiced to achieve the SAME POWER (as in .. they were equals) as his brother.

Both died, yes, but incarnated Hashi spanked incarnated Madara. Each time, "Ashura" comes out a little ahead. But I guess Kishi is pushing the notion someone posted above that the cycle will continue until they use ninnshu to make peace, not ninjutsu to make war.

Unless of course he wants to continue the manga another ten years. He has left so many plot hooks in this story that he could quite literally go in any direction he wants.

I guess that they both died in their final fight, seeing as Hagoromo stated that Ashura acquired the same power as Indra. I may be wrong though, but I doubt that Ashura would just kill Indra in their fight, especially after he was shown to love and care for everybody, much like Naruto when he said that he will protect Konoha without killing Sasuke in his conversation with Itachi before he died
