Asuma is a fairly tall man with black hair that is spiked and short, dark brown eyes, and a beard. His clothes are pretty standard for a konoha shinobi but his sleeves are rolled up. Only half way though. He wears a flak jacket which shows that he is at least a chuunin, shinobi sandals, and forehead protector, like most shinobi and as the name suggests he wears it around is forehead. Around his waist he wears a white sash with the kanji for fire (火) which suggests he wsa part of the 12 guardian ninja. He also wears bangles and bandages around the arms of his sleeves.
Personality:
He is a relatively laid back person and a heavy smoker but he does tend to stop smoking when stressed or doing some heavy thinking. A prime example of this is when he learned that Kurenai was pregnant. Another example of this is when his father, the third hokage died. Asuma hardly ever saw eye to eye with his father Hiruzen but eventually came to respect him as the Hokage. He tends not to get involved in things unless absolutely pertinent. A prime example of this is the chuunin exams when hinata was about to be striked by nejii and he did not react. He has shown to be proud of his heritage and expressed this in a conversation with his father when he said he was proud to be a part of the Sarutobi clan. He tends to be blunt when conversing with people, especially with his students Ino, Choji and Shikamaru. This is whown when he called Ino a loudmouth, Choji a glutton and Shikamaru a slacker. Despite this he has a brilliant relationship with all three. Usually after a mission he takes his students to Yakiniku Q to celebrate a succesful mission and more times than not Choji orders everything on the menu and eats way too much. It is because of this that he has to fork out a lot of money and apologize to the owner for Choji eating all the restaurants food. He often manipulates his students in to doing what he wishes. A prime example of this is in the Chuunin exams when he tells Choji that if he wins he will take him out to eat. He is also a skilled assessor. An example of this is his constant games of shogi with shikamaru. He uses shogi to assess Shikamaru's progress. Despite his constant games of shogi with shikamaru he has never won a game with him. It was due to this that Asuma discovered Shikamarus genius I.Q of 200.

Background Info
History:
Asuma was born to the third hokage and his wife, the former being Hiruzen Sarutobi and the Latter Biwako Sarutobi. During his time at the academy he became close friends with Kurenai yuhi whom he later dated and got pregnant. During the Chuunin exams he openly cheered on his classmates. 12 years before the start of the Naruto series he and his classmates plus some younger ninja were banned from participating in the Nine tails attack due to their age by Kurenai Yuhi's father and other senior shinobi. Some time after this horrendous event he became an uncle to Konohamaru Sarutobi.
