He was beat in his own game (CQC) but he was against an Akatsuki who's totally dependant on CQC as well so... plus he was against an immortal, making his elemental jutsus seem ineffective or useless.
Then again, i got the idea that he was close to Kakashi and Gai's level in part 1 so i expected some shine from him.
