They always screw up original things that are based on something like books, video games, or anime etc. They only they do alright are their romance movies and they're all cliched and boring.

Reviews never really are an accurate way to judge a movie. Go see the movie and then decide for yourself what you think of it. The problems with these kinds of movies that there's a lot of prejudice towards them. Some of the posts in this thread are a prime example of that.

I'm going to watch it either way. I love the AC franchise, the trailers were pretty decent and Micheal Fassbender is one of my favourite actors.

Not when the indie writers are saying the same thing. Maybe a bad movie that gets general backlash can just be a bad movie.
Simplistic reasoning. Everyone has a different perspective, a hundred thousand individuals all labeling something terrible, does not represent the same resolution to another who believes it was great. Personal perspectives > mass labeling.

Nobody is telling you that you can't enjoy a movie though. I'm a part-time editorial writer for middle-sized film site and despite the proper terminology or standards or a degree I have- doesn't mean I don't appreciate the hell out of Spiderman 3. The Hobbit Series. The Nightmare on Elm street sequels...hell, Birdemic. They have value, but it doesn't mean they're great masterworks. Most people would and do feel collectively angered by seeing some of those movies I listed.

Seems like you're implying film criticism is pointless. People go to experts to know where not to waste their time, get entertainment reading them & not reward bad movies with their money. Film critics are NOT there to try and guess your opinion.

If critics who have seen previews dislike 'Assassin's Creed' it is because they're some of the biggest fans of film there are and want to get the word out to people who simply want a good time at the movies. The die-hards can and will still see it.

All you have to do it enter film forums or see comment threads on review articles to see that popular opinions are very agreed upon in film circles. LOTR? Good. Hobbit Films bad. Terminator 2, only good one. TDK is the greatest movie of all time, Suicide Squad is garbage. When the audience are so wide-scale agreed on these opinions it DOES serve a purpose to create content for your demographic and go off what you know the majority likes/dislikes. All reviews come with and really are an individuals' opinion attached anyway.

Meteorologists review weather. Sports commentators review sports events, I see little difference.

You're completely missing the point -- Perspective is entirely different per person. A movie can be labeled bad by one person, and great by another. A majority consensus that a movie is terrible does not pose as fact to another. It's that simple.

Your weather forecaster analogy is extraneous.

And you're mistaken if you think deciding the final word on a film's quality is what critics jobs are.

There's a reason critics see films before general audiences. Film analysis and critique is done post-release, and is never about a film's intrinsic quality or reception. Film reviews are done before audience reception even exists, to warn against movie disasters or hidden gems that might not otherwise be found by the general public.

The reason they exist is to help the everyday film fan know where to spend their money and time whilst also keeping the industry on their toes. If their opinions end up differing then it's just as interesting to see how the individual's opinion matches up to the critical response as reviews are entertainment articles in their own right. There are also several critics with different opinions, they are just as much individuals in their own right.

Critics do not exist to decide your opinions or immortalise a film as good/bad no matter how much you try invalidate an entire field of work. I updated the previous post.

But what did Kevin smith thinks ? That's the real question, nah I kidd

Reviews are for dumbasses lol. But if it help you sleep at night, the early reaction are positive, people are even saying that this might be the movie who will finally break the game-movie curse

I was planning to see it but there arent any good 2D screenings at my local cinema so I ain't sure anymore.

From the negative reviews I've seen, they say the plot is convoluted which doesn't really bother me as I like watching things that aren't easy to follow. What do you people think, is it worth paying for in 3D? :/
