Yeah, it was. Before that point, Pain's Shinkra Tensei reaction was so fast not a single person who knew better had even attempted to even get close to him during his five second interval. Itachi just managed it randomly. Probably out of Kishimoto's bias for him.

You realize kabuto is controlling him right and there was zero visibility in front of him after the explosion. Kabuto made several mistakes regarding Nagato in that fight

Kabuto controlling him really shouldn't make much of a difference, neither should its distance. Pain was face to face with an incoming Rasenshuriken right out of a plume of smoke covering his visibility and was still able to Shinra Tensei it easily.

Makes hell of a difference. As what he does is dependent on what kabuto wants him to do. Kabuto's control of Nagato =/= Nagatos's control of paths of pain. He lost focus on the fight especially when allowed itachi to causally take out the shared vision.

Almost none of the Edo were willing to fight, that is not really a good argument towards the case. Not to mention the fact that he would have to be more skilled with the Rinnegan than both Madara and Sasuke to use it the way he did, which is just ridiculous. He orders Nagato, yes, but control him directly? No way.

Why are u ignoring manga facts m8. Kabuto is clearly directly influencing Nagato in this fight. There is no other edo fight where kabuto does this play by play. Nagato has 0 dialogue when he's being "completely controlled" by Kabuto. More skilled than Madara and Sasuke? He's legit just using the skills pain dispalyed already lol. I've shown u he has knowledge to know what they do.
