Hopefully this is the right place to place this,
I wanted to bring this up since it is quite possible (since there is nothing preventing this from happening) humans will be able to create artificial intelligences as complex as shown in one of my favorite science fiction show called Astro Boy (2003). The show starts off with some humans accepting the robots as there equal most notably one of the main characters doctor Dr. O'Shay. Others in the show wanted to get rid of them most notably one of the organization that I forgot the name of. There goal was to cause as much mayham as possible and place the blame on the advanced artificial intelligences since there main goal was to get rid of them and it almost succeeded but there plot failed as shown towards the end of the show where the artificial intelligences were granted person status.
If this were to happen in the future, do you guys think they could qualify for a moral right to life and be labled ''persons?'' I do know in this time and era surprisingly still that the word ''person'' and ''human'' are used interchangeably but they actually don't have to be synonymous as all. Some dictionaries though like the oxford dictionary have a definition of person as ''a self conscious or rational being.'' Though do note that dictionaries only record how language commonly get's used
Since a person is simply just a entity with a moral right to life while a human is just a member of the human species. This explains why for example if you were to go out deer hunting you shoot and kill a deer you are not charged with murder since the deer was not a person since it had no moral right to life which murder is simply the depraving of. But, if a angel disguised as a human were to show themselves to the public and I decided to slit his/her throat there by kill them (let's say it was possible) I think most of you would declare it murder right? If most of you would declare it murder you must've used some distinction to have came to that conclusion and I will show it in a minute here.
Anyway, back to the topic I do believe in the show what made the humans gave the artificial intelligences personhood status probably could've been the six items below. They didn't mention these in the show so this is just a guess since what did the advanced artificial intelligence had that wanted to make the humans treat them as there equals?
Here is the list,
1. Self-consciousness - awareness of oneself as existing over time, with a past and expectation of a future. This is where you know you have a life now and you know you have a life until you die which is why humans can ''plan'' there life into the future if you know what I mean by that.
2. A notion of freedom - an ability to initiate a purposive sequence of actions and be recognized as responsible for them. The ability to initiate actions purposely is part of the notion of "Free Will". Recognizing responsibility means being able to understand abstractions, such as the Law of Cause and Effect. Accepting responsibility is part of being rational.
3. Have reasons for acting, and an ability to understand the idea of having a reason for acting. Having a reason for acting is closely associated with understanding the concept of "the future".
4. An ability to communicate - to use language. Communication involves significant amounts of abstraction-processing.
5. A moral sense - a capacity to make moral judgments. An ability to make moral judgments is also related to both understanding abstractions and rationality, AND the Free Will to arbitrarily decide that some things are good while others are bad.
6. Rationality. Of course what I mean by rationality, is that Rationality is associated with Logic, and Logic very often involves manipulating abstractions.
Discussion?

. So, All you need is a lot of people using a word a certain way, No Matter How Idiotically (no offense anyone), and a description of that "certain way" will eventually end up in a dictionary.Since a person is simply just a entity with a moral right to life while a human is just a member of the human species. Those statements suggest that to qualify as a rational being, one must first be able to understand abstractions. And according to the linked article, there are degrees of understanding that can be measured.Discussion?
