I'm curious what are the primary weapons these two forces use?

I heard the Army's is the M4 Carbine/M4A1 while the Marine's is the M16.

Both get both usually the m4 tho but both guns are getting replaced by M27s

I'm doing this for three reasons. Experience, Money, and GI Bill.

Well im not to sure, but im thinking army or navy. If not air force cuz my bro is doing air force.

It depends upon the mission, honestly. Different members filling different roles will be equipped with different weapons.

A team equipping to clear rooms (CQG) may choose not to bring along an M4 or M16. The point man will always have a shotgun on such teams, and the people behind him may all be armed with shorter barreled rifles/mods designed specifically for the CQB role.

On the other hand, most infantry platoons have a couple designated marksmen, a couple automatic rifle teams, and a radioman (though this role has become less about equipment and more about structuring the flow of information so the whole battalion isn't trying to yack in the ear of some officer).

Then you have your anti-armor squads.

Generally, most forces have switched over to the M4 since it provides similar effective range, is lighter, and most people prefer it in the urban environment (though the shorter travel length of the bolt has been noted to cause more jams when compared to the M16). But the M16 is still available, as are many other weapons.

both branches use both rifles, it really varies on the unit you join. in fact, some squads even get special weapons, ig, you might end up in a fireteam with someone handling a H&K. as far as i'm concerned, if you want an unit with the m4, go for the 7th regiment of the army. if you want a m16, you should probaly join the us mountaineers.

PS: The m16 is finally about to retire, they're gonna switch it for the SCAR AR.

Depends on MOS and billet and sometimes mission. But the primary weapon in the Marine Corps is the service rifle. M16/AR15 family. In an infantry rifle platoon. The T/O (table of organization), everything works in groups of 1 and 3. 1 Platoon Commander for 3 Rifle Squads. 1 Squad Leader with 3 Fireteams. 1 Fireteam consist of the Team leader and three other members, an Automatic Rifleman, Assitant Auto Rifleman, and a Rifleman. The The Team leader, usually carries a service rifle with a grenade launcher attachment. The Auto Riflemen carries and fully automatic rifle M249 (until the it gets replaced). The Assitant Auto and the Rifleman has the service Rifle. And depending on the mission each member will have a sidearm. Sometimes shotguns are added and it's ussually the Rifleman or Assistant Auto Rifleman will carry that.

Again situation dependent, the rifle squad or Rifle plattoon can be augmented with attachments. So going back to the 1 to 3 chain of command, each rifle company has three Rifle platoons (known as Line platoons) and a weapons platoon. The weapons platoon augments the other platoons because they have machinegunnners, mortarmen, anti armor assualtmen with in that platoon. They carry what is known has crew served weapons where it takes a few people to operate the system.

You 1 to 3 further up and you have the A Battalion with 3 Line Companies and a heavy weapons Company. This is my experience as a Marine Rifleman. Not sure about the Army's T/O.
