This thread is created for those who have been to the army/conscript service (volunteer or not) or have thought about going and like to discuss about it. Also general discussion about the topic is the point of this thread.

I guess that as a creator of this thread I have to tell little bit about my conscript service:

In Finland where I live it's a citizen duty and ordered by a law that 18 year old males must go through the conscript training. In minimum it's half year and max a year.
I for example decided to volunteerily apply to Finnish Rapid Deployment Forces in where they train conscripts to become peacekeepers and it's sorta one of our a special forces. I passed the tests and got in few years ago.
During my time there I was trained the basic conscript skills and the rest of the time was international practise and basic peacekeeping skills, like going in to Norway for two weeks for military excercise. The whole thing took 12 months. It was the best time of my life and at the same time worst. In the end I decided not to leave to Kosovo or Tshad even though I had a chance.

So anyone else here been to the army/male conscript service? Or worked as a peacekeeper? If so why did you go and what did you think about your time wearing camo's? Or if you haven't been have you ever thought about going?

Well, in Belgium, it isn't obligated anymore to enroll, though I might enroll on a voluntary bases... I'm not sure though... It seems rough O_O.

if you're an army reserve in america, they pay a certain amount for your college tuition. you still have to go thru the mandatory training in bootcamp, but once that's over, you can go back to college and attend training only during the weekends or when they call you for duty. so it's like a civilian soldier.

i dunno how long i wanna be in the reserve cuz i become a college freshman after summmer, but at least when i'm done with college that's for sure.

Okay, well sounds like you gotta plan!..Do people still "get" to go to Irak as volunteers ? Or does U.S have any missions for reserve soldiers anymore?

army reserve is for emergency situations as far as i know. so yea they can be deployed to iraq if it's necessary.
