i did it the proper F@#$ing way...

I have a 5.1 external speaker system hooked up to my laptop through the aux/ headphones port... and then i have an HDMI cable ran to my 51" samsung DLP... now when i plug the HDMI into my tv it automatically starts producing sound from my laptop which is cool but i'd rather it go through my speakers so i have to set them as my default device... however i would like the audio to come through both... if this is at all possible could somebody please help me out with this???

Some of these NB rules don't even make sense... "no advertising a thread with another thread"... really??!?! how does somebody benefit from that.. what is so wrong with it???

I'm not sure if you can... why don't you connect your speakers to DLP ?
cuz it'll take away from the tv... i mean i could but the way i have my basement set up is... i have a laptop that is 15 or more feet away from my tv and i have a long ass hdmi cable hooked up to it for the display on the tv..

Dude, why you want tv sound and speaker sound at the same time? It sounds ****ing horrible :/ Televisions are made so that the bass is lower toned so when - say for example - an explosion in a movie happens, you can still hear the actors speak. Best bet is to just use your speakers for the sound.

Sorry if what I said was completely irrelevant, I only skim-read the OP.
