Well, I am a fanboy... just not a Naruto one. My favorite characters, the ones I'd defend very passionately are:
-Asuka Langley Sōryū (from Neon Genesis Evangelion [in general I am a NGE fanboy, but I try to stay logical and calm]): Just gotta love her! She's such a badass and has a very deep character development. She offers an interesting contrast to Shinji.

-Tao Ren (from Shaman King): Ever since he was introduced, he was a very warlike, arrogant, wild and violent boy. Such atributes offered a great contrast to Yoh's way of living. At the beginning, he offered the chance to see Yoh defend his principles very passionately (and as such Ren played a pretty gud antagonist). However, he also became a figure to question Yoh's ideology

(even when they became friends)

and his bg is quite touching. He has got one of the most complete development along Shaman King (adding the fact he's a total boss), and it's really quite interesting to see how he changed along the series and yet he remained as the warlike wild boy he always was!
