And in a SJ podcast, Kishimoto clarified that the upcoming Boruto Manga was a dignified piece of the story.

So a distant relative of the Hyuga can't awaken the Byakugan in one eye ? There goes the Boruto/Sasuke parallel...

Don't think so. It wouldn't be much of a parallel to Sasuke anyway, unless it was the Rinnegan. You could basically put that guy who was Mei's bodyguard, or Kakashi/Obito.

Anyway the only way someone can awaken the Byakugan in one eye, is if they also have Uchiha blood, which gives them both Dojutsu.

It would be if he eventually awakened Tenseigan cause both of them would have the dojutsu of someone with Rikudou chakra in one eye
