There was no way to stop the coup d'etat. Shisui tried and failed. For the sake of the village, Itachi murdered his clan and became a s-rank criminal. He killed a clan to prevent the deaths of many more. Itachi had no choice. What do you think he could have done?

1. As if the elders and youngsters would not seek revenge for their loved ones who died. Big example (sasuke, he raging on itachi, hes a youngster).. Plus he joined akatsuki, cuz he got nowhere to go.. And to avoid anyone in the group to catch sasuke and put him inside the organization.

2. Tortured his young brother just to build up hatred on him, so that when he grows up.. He could kill itachi and becomes a hero who murdered a s-class criminal.

3. Do u expect itachi acting as an s-class criminal who murdered the entire UCHIHA clan would play weak against the copy ninja Kakashi? He had to act real, so he could avoid any suspicion.

4. Cuz he didnt care bout naruto.. He treasured more love for sasuke than his own village.

5. Cuz he is a konoha shinobi.. No one knew there will be an allied shinobi in the future..

Some of the trolls got banned and theres no real reason to wank Itachi anymore. All people can do now is troll with his character. Itachi was always paired with Minato, Naruto, Sasuke, Nagato and Kabuto for debates but since all them are obviously stronger, Itachi fanboys have nothing serious to talk about.

Most have turned their attention to Sasuke.

Itachi was able to sacrifice his life like his friend shisui. He did much worse than dying for the village. He became a criminal despised by everyone and then died at the hand of his brother, not wanting him to know the truth.

He preferred to eradicate all possibilies of the uchiha being a threat in the future. His mission was to kill everyone. Ninjas are supposed to obey the rules.
-He spied on Akatsuki. The only way he could do that without too much suspicion was to help them as well. I am sure he would have stopped the Akatsuki if their plans were going too far-stopping the juubi revival
-Obviously, Kakashi didn't die. Itachi didn't want to have to kill kakashi. He could have extended the tsukuyomi's duration by making it more than a few seconds-3 days in the tsukuyomi world for 20 seconds. Then he could have finished kakashi off.
-He knew well that Jiraiya was going to interfere.
-Protect the people? Most Konoha people are scumbags. It is Konoha as a whole which needs to be protected, not only its people.
