...or we tend to exaggerate the traits of the characters. Such as Sakura's you know what("uselessness"), Sasuke's and Madara(many others is well), mood swings, Obito's Rin recitation, Itachi's epiceness, Nagato's "book soloing", Naruto's TNJ and Kakashi's coolness. Or the question can be said are these traits portrayed well or we make a massive deal out of things because we are sensitive piece of mofos? :whip: Either way, Kishi has too much power.

Without the influence of the internet involved, I did feel like there were some emotional moments that were too overdone by Kishi. Obito not getting over Rin was prob the one that bothered me the most. For some reason Kishi just couldn't drop that topic.

I agree that there are a ton of fans that over exaggerate a character's traits just to elevate their own favorite character though. We see it all the time.

Well, some things were done pretty well.

Ex: Ch 698 with Naruto/Sasuke being honest with how they felt towards each other, Jiraiya's death, Itachi's 2 departures from the series, Haku's/Zabuza's deaths, etc.

But I do think that the fandom online blows some things out of proportion and then many bandwagon to fit in. This is seen more on NF/GameFaqs/Tumblr/and other sites like that than here though. Most of the time for "hate" purposes than admiration towards characters. Maybe it's because some people are really unhappy with their lives so they feel better at they take out their emotions on fictional characters. Elevates their self-esteem, probably.

Ex: Sakura paying more attention to Sasuke than Madara during the War arc. Many fans flipped out over that but Sakura has always had Sasuke as her main concern throughout the series. Nothing different here.

Naruto passing out over Sasuke joining Akatsuki or begging Raikage to spare him. Yes, this was extreme but Naruto has always put Sasuke above his own well-being and safety. That's who he considers to be his best friend.

Sasuke stabbing Karin. People freaked out about that and said Sasuke was at the point of no return. Yes, he hurt his comrade but Sasuke had no issue killing fodder samurai he could easily evade and Suigetsu even pointed out how heartless that was. Sasuke wasn't going to let anything stop his quest for vengeance and Karin was a tool to him in the first place along with Taka. Very in character for an extreme avenger.

Kakashi telling Sasuke that "Love doesn't need a reason. You only need a reason to hate someone." Yes, that was a needless thing to say and he was attempting to guilt-trip Sasuke into returning Sakura's obsession for him. But Kakashi has always been slightly hypocritical when it came to Sasuke's vengeance (he said revenge is always wrong but in pt2 completely supported Shikamaru) and preached about him accepting his friends. This was in character. But people still got upset, mainly pairing fans.

And that's just reactions to things Team 7 did.

I think that love for a character blinds fans as well. The prime example being Jiraiya (no offense to any fans of his). His fandom is horrendously aggressive and concentrated on certain sites (cough NF/GameFaqs) or pretty much non-existent/chill on others for whatever reason. People have mentioned Sasori/Itachi as being the worst spies in the series (not on this site) in an effort to bring attention away from J-man when in reality we know nearly nothing about their spying activity, what info they picked up, if someone in Akatsuki like BZ intercepted that info, was the spying even of the nature to send info or just to keep an eye on the organization (Hiruzen mentioned Itachi was just keeping his own tabs, so it's the latter for him). For Sasori we just know he had connections with Kabuto. It's too vague to judge those two and it was just an off-handed character development. Whereas we know for Jiraiya he left for over a decade and all he knew was the amount of members Akatsuki have. That's a joke honestly. I mean, this is literally all he knew...

Was it some pointless self-appointed spy mission he gave himself? Seems like it, given Hiruzen/Danzo knew of Akatsuki's existence long before Jiraiya found it since they knew during the Uchiha Massacre at least. Too bad he found absolutely nothing of use given his main objective was to gather intel.

Then, with his death we have the development that he accepted being Naruto's godfather as a promise to Minato.

Why did he go out drinking, traveling, and messing around when an orphan was suffering along in Konoha? Did he expect Hiruzen to take care of it? Hiruzen cannot, he has an entire village to look after.

Why was his first reaction to meeting Naruto wanting him to buzz off so he could go mess around more but that only changed once Naruto showed him Sexy Jutsu?

Or did he not know who Naruto was? He's the godfather and didn't know... that looks worse if that's the case. The Akatsuki like Itachi know but he doesn't? That's horrendous. Since he's this irresponsible he shouldn't have taken on that promise to Naruto's father and mother in the first place.

Then you have his fans believing he scared both Kisame and Itachi away from Naruto... despite the evident lie Itachi said "Even with backup, it wouldn't make a difference"... I don't see Jiraiya taking on both Kisame and Itachi at the same time. Much less all of Akatsuki. Fan or hater, anyone should be able to see that.

During his death you have him stating how he was disappointed how he wouldn't be the hero who took down Akatsuki and what not. He knew nothing about Akatsuki. He didn't know why members joined, their backgrounds, their goals, etc. He just wanted to be a nationalist with glory. His own students were the founders and he had no idea until his final day.

He thought he'd be heroic for killing Pein? Yeah, he was a threat to Konoha. Only after Konoha had devastated his home land by instigating wars so they could reap the benefits and not go broke as ninjas, while everything he loved was caught in the crossfire and destroyed. He didn't even consider this, he went right to wanting to kill him and Pein gave him chances to retreat so he could be spared. Right, Pein is the misguided one. /sarcasm

Then there are some stating he was a flawed hero of some sort but he didn't necessarily do anything heroic during his lifetime. However, he did have a nice pity party during his death... which I could not feel sympathy for given he did not achieve his goals specifically because he didn't try, he fooled around while other shinobi carried the burdens. He had regrets, but they were all his own fault. His death was well-done in terms of the impact and the metaphor is his life itself being a story and him finally "putting down his pen" and passing the chapter on to Naruto but outside of that- I couldn't feel anything.

If one were to be objective and list out all of Jiraiya's personality traits along with his actions/or lack of actions- he'd be on par with most of the villains in this series, only a few surpassing him in his ways which leave much to be desired. Most villains at least had ideas to benefit the rest of the world, Jiraiya was content to be inactive and rely on a prophecy despite his resources.

Only decent sides to his character are: He was a fun father figure to Naruto when he decided to take the latter seriously, He had a rounded personality to counter his convoluted albeit ironically simple character, and He's a good self-insert to many older fans who wish they could escape the pressures of real life and just goof of while still having people admire them (which is unrealistic, but hey most anime fans look for escapism, right?)

In the manga, not so much. In the fans, however, they are way over the top.

Its only the fans exaggerating that makes it feel that the emotions are high flowing in Naruto.
