I say immortal for sure. The Akatsuki wanted to only injure the Jinchuriki before extracting the tailed beasts. I think they said too that it was because it'd take too long for them to come back at full power. They probably "killed" the tailed beasts in the past thinking it would be for good, onlyto have them reborn and rise to full strength after time.

yes since they are just an accumilation of chakra they cannot die.. i suppose u could say they die temporarily but i guess the chakra gathers again recreating the tailed beast after a while since it would take a long time for that amount of chakra to gather again

Probably not. Naruto has most of his genes from his father than from Kushina. I think that the chain jutsu is a trait only passed onto the women. But the thing is that it is a technique used for restraining using one's life force and chakra. It takes a tremendous amount of chakra to be able to restrain say a like a Bijuu for example. It may just be a recessive trait that only manifests itself in women of the Uzumaki bloodline even possibly only the pure blooded ones like Kushina, Mito, and Karin. Naruto is mixed bloodline of Namikaze and Uzumaki.
