He didn't turn toad 'coz he absorbed rasengan. He had Naruto in a half/full nelson lock and was absorbing Naruto's chakra, Naruto couldn't move. So Naruto decided to absorb nature chakra so that the chakra Preta path was absorbing would contain Nature Chakra as well. And since Preta can't control the balance of Nature chakra he turned to stone and Naruto went sage Mode and broke free

So naruto was already in sage mode, otherwise all is correct.

don't forget you need a huge chakra reserve or else you can't control it. because when you have less nature energy then ur spi and psy energy then nothing happens do you have exactly the same then u get powered up and when u got more nature energy u turn to stone so even if there was something like hawk sage mode or dog sage mode or slug not everyone could do that not sasuke not kakashi and i don't think sakura could do it

I just want to imply about the whole sage thing since its getting controversial lol Nature energy is all about being one with nature and humans lacks that dearly. Humans or should I say ninjas only have physical and spiritual energy where as animals uses nature energy in order to survive in the animal kingdom. When a shinobi uses natural energy there senses increases and that makes total sense cause there are tons of animals in the world that has a variety of sensing mechanisms to defend themselves from predators and foes. Humans are limited with those gifts so it is understandable why u need and animal to unlock sage mode because they are more inclined with nature rather than humans. Kishi is smart to bring forth this philosophy because in real life its true.

Kishi wanted you to only be able to turn into amphibians. So he thought about it and realized that a snake was like an amphibian, he wanted some kinda special mode for Kabuto to.So he made Snake Sage Mode, after it was published and out there he realized that snakes aren't amphibians.

I think every sage mode the animal have a different unique way of absorbing nature chakra sooo the frogs would differ from the snakes but when the respected animal have a student and teach them they teach them in their unqiue way ...... i also think that a simply ninja to could turn into to sage mode withput the help of an animal once he could sense the nature chakra but it might not be as strong as if he was taught by an animal or maybe it may just be stronger who knows...
