Are Obito and Madara connected to the Juubi?

Now look. You can clearly see on the back on Obito and madara something hooked up to them

But really, my question is.. What is the thing hooked up to obito and madara? Is it just a long hair? Or some tube that does something. No huge flaming, let the discussion begin and end in 1 setence or 100

Since the "tubes" look as they are coming from the Juubi, I can only assume that they are, indeed, connected physically to the Juubi.
