Are Laws needed in this world?

African lawless society where warring tribes are known to EAT one another.

16 year old adolescents doped up with assault rifles killing civilians.

Very sad but it's the real world please watch.

It's their tradition. We can't take that away.

Laws remove our freedom

Laws do not take away your freedom. You have the freedom to choose to do whatever you want. You just have to be willing to face the consequences for your actions.

Takes away our freedom to do what we want. And most people want to do things that serve themselves and hurt others. In a perfect world everyone would be enlightened and self-actualized and we wouldn't need laws. But we aren't, so we do.

It's such a shame some people just troll on threads to get attention (you know who you are).
In regards to Laws, as a human race yes we do need Laws. I digress many laws are created not to benefit others ecexpt the benefactor. Laws however also reveal on a basic level the appropriate manner to conduct oneself, gives structure to society and provides protection for itse people. In saying this I do in fact realise there are MANY flaws with having laws; i know this because I have been subject to the corruption and twisting of laws; but they are needed to provide protection and structure for people.

In response to what straightup said, that laws haven't always existed, in affect this is not true, Laws are rules which are set down in place to make a partition between right and wrong, to provide service and to provide order. When you were a child do you remember playing games with your friends, you'd figure out what the aim of the game was, and then everyone agreed on rules or 'laws' to prevent cheating (this is a very basic example).Even from a young age rules and laws exist and apply.
I do agree with the point that many laws come from experience, but keep in mind, some laws do not necessarily need to be put in place but have to because people wont always do the correct or right thing.

In regards to those who say 'Laws take away our freedom', this is a yes and no answer, again it come back to those who have implemented the law. Laws are set in place as a rule of thumb (mind the pun) to provide the people under the law with freedom and to benefit them whilst protecting them.Some laws do take away freedoms, but some of those 'freedoms' may or may not have been right to begin with. I digress this is an involved subject but I am trying to give and objective answer here.

Indeed if there were no laws then there would be anarchy or chaos you cannot have both. Humanity would quickly decline if it were left to anarchy, which is defined as"absence of government and absolute freedom of the individual, regarded as a political ideal", this in and of itself is interesting considering what would that individual class as their freedom, and what governs their actions in society? because if their political idea is "I do what i want because I want to, and can" one persons 'freedom' could be violating someone else's life with no consequence!?
In addition if all governments of the world were overthrown one day, there would quickly be someone else to take over and assert position among the people, who in turn would instill ideas, ideals and laws upon the people of whom he/she has been distinguished. (Now goodness knows what those would be!). Chaos arises where there is no longer any order to things, no laws at all ( like my bedroom floor haha), that is also a possibility but very unlikely.

In closing it is necessary to have laws in place for society, to govern and rule, to protect and provide structure. This isn't a perfect world and people are not perfect, and Laws are not always perfect but they are necessary.

Yes, sadly we do need order of sorts because humans cannot control themselves. If there were no rules, nothing stops someone from coming up behind you and shooting you in the back of the head. It doesn't stop someone from stealing from you, or help someone reconsider doing something bad to your family or friends. Without the idea of consequences to certain actions, there are just some individuals who will do anything they do not feel is bad.

Morals and good and evil are arguably subjective to the individual but overall, most humans have an idea of right and wrong...however that isn't enough to keep the world at peace. I know the world still isn't at peace, even with laws and rules but its much better than what it would be if we didn't have them. We don't know chaos without order, nor order without chaos...if chaos only existed, we probably wouldn't still exist on this planet...we would have done destroyed our own race by some egotistical stupid act.

Definitely. A heightened intelligence compared to other animals means we have to limit ourselves to some extent, the Earth would be dead and it'd be a horrible place if everybody was allowed to do whatever they wanted. Like a planet of naive children.

It's an interesting debate to wonder the nature of laws and how many we really need but necessary? Yes.

Laws are needed. Although they restrict certain individuals in society, they protect and maintain the well being of others. Without laws our world would look worse than it already does. Laws can't stop individuals from committing crimes however they provide a punishment for this which decreases the chances of the criminal re-offending thus protecting the public. This is just my opinion and justification though and I can't say if it's right or wrong.
