Are Hagoromo and his family actually evil?

They seem to be traveling across the cosmos in search of power and manipulating the lives of many thousands, or even millions, of people in order to prove some vague philosophical point. I mean that's pretty much evil, right? I doubt the manga will delve into this, but why shouldn't Naruto tell Hagoromo to GTFO and fight his own damn war?

Well mommy was either an alien or some power hungry maniac. His brother probably didn't turn out so well, and Sage himself seems woefully out of touch with humanity despite all of his alleged enlightenment. If his ideals were so enlightened, why didn't they work?
