It seems like the value of the OP currency is going down. I remember when it used to be impressive to have a 17,000,000 berry bounty like Don Krieg had. Was Don Krieg a nobody? Now it seems you're not remotely impressive until you're bounty is over 60 million... Even someone as pathetic as Fake Luffy (Demaro Black) had a bounty higher than 17,000,000...

I VERY highly doubt Fake Luffy was tougher than Don Krieg, Arlong, and Buggy the Clown. So what's going on here, is Oda creating these ridiculous bounties to make a sense of progress for the story?

Bounties =\= strength. Dude probably had a higher bounty because of his actions. Don Krieg was just some dude with money anyways, so I wouldn't be too surprised to see him lose to fake luffy lol. He was tough at that time, but it was all bought

A bounty is dependent on how much a certain individual ( in one piece it's the goverment) is willing to pay it has nothing to do with streanght.

Fake Luffy got one-shoted by a marine with a club... Don Krieg would put 40 bullets into someone that weak in a fight. And having a crew with 50 ships and a giant flagship should get a you a high bounty. And everyone was impressed at his 17 million bounty, Demaro had nearly a 30 million bounty and he and he got treated like dirt when everyone found out his bounty...

But, you would think a guy with 51 ships that terrorizes the East Blue and is really well known would have a bounty in excess of 100,000,000...

Better question. Where does the world government get the funds to pay such people who actually manage to say take high profile people's heads?

Taxes? I don't think One Piece world have tax collectors, and before you say Arlong shush Lol.

Its hard to collect a lot of cash at once. You see it all the time in tv shows, where the police or similar entity need to gather money to pay for a ransom or something similar of nature.

Only in East Blue :) so it fits him by surface valuation, since East Blue is considered as the weakest sea among the four and the ships he had destroyed were, safe to say, insignificant and didn't worth to make a fuss like a 100,000,000 beli pirate would do.

Yes Don Krieg was a complete and utter nobody, a fodder that would get his ass kicked by pretty much every character today

Someone whi didn't even make it into the GL isn't getting a high bounty

Why wouldn't the WG collect taxes? We've known taxation since ancient Egypt

It comes down too what you have done.... Don krig was the type to keep a low profile and when he did try to become famous he ended up getting attacked by "Hawkeye" the warlord. Pirates tend to get bounties for what they have done, and it's not necessarily the world govenment that places those bounties.... It could be a kingdom like "alabista" that places those bounties (However generally it tends to be the government)

An example "Luffy":
1) Attacked Enis Lobbies - received an increase of bounty
2) Defeated a warlord (Croc) - received an increase of bounty

All in all, now that the manga/anime has reached such a long state, bounties have increase per individual or pirate group for the "Better sense of Danger/Power/Trouble"..... To show you that people are now "Big Shots"

Huh? Your post imply that Demalo was one shotted by some random, no name marine. That wasn't the case. Sentoumaru is one of the strongest marines out there. Plus, Demalo is still far above the nameless fodders in, say, Krieg's crew. Those guys could never hope to achieve such a bounty.

Also do I need to remind you guys that the AVERAGE bounty in East Blue is only 3 million? Krieg was at a much higher level than that. Him, Buggy, Kuro, Arlong were all Grand Line material. Same goes for the Strawhats. They were much stronger than the average pirate since the very beginning.

Krieg was simply unlucky to bump into Mihawk. Otherwise he would've handled most of the Grand Line well enough.

VA Brannew is the one who issues out bounties and it's said that obtaining a bounty of over 300 mil (I believe it was 300 mil) is difficult, so I wouldn't say it's decreasing in value. It just means these guys pose a bigger threat to the world gov. Even though Don krieg had lots of ship I doubt that those fodder filled shipped posed much of a threat as a single person with over 70 mil bounty.

It's because as the series go on we are seeing stronger characters therefore the standards for being strong go up?
Not that hard to get really...

There's no reason to believe they don't collect taxes. We do know that the Tenryuubito collect tributes, though.
