Yoshunken (Springtime Fist) | Wing Chun (Eternal Springtime)
Type: Taijutsu | Oku Bujutsu
Background: The history of this art pre-dates era where humans possessed chakra. This is classified as one of the Okou Bujutsu (Ancient Martial Arts). It is because of this style’s age the style’s origins have been almost completely lost in history. What is known is that this was a predominant style practiced by the special troupe of a powerful warlord’s army. Around three generations after the Sage of Six Paths defeated the Jubi, a descendant of the former warlord went to study under a priestess who followed in the religion of Ninshu. The descendant’s name was Yoshunko and her original inclination was to learn how to understand her own chakra and that of natures. With her family’s feudal status long gone after the temporary cease in war, all she had as legacy was the bujutsu teachings that ran in her family and former kingdom. It became so that, under the teachings of the priestess Yoshunko managed to incorporate the use of chakra into her family’s fighting style which she did. Much is lost after this period as well due to the return of the war era. From the bits and pieces that remain it was presumed that a dojo was opened by Yoshunko after her training with the priestess. However, once the wars began again, people desired strong forms of combat to use so it is presumed she either went into hiding or never trained anyone or she only trained those who were trust worthy in her eyes. Though this style’s history and true name have been lost all aside from the remaining masters of this art, the woman, Yoshunko was a name known by all. She was neither a shinobi nor a warrior, but stories of her skill and power go down in legend. It is thus that the name of this style is known as Yoshunken after her. Without any true recognition of how the style works by most shinobi (aside from true taijutsu masters who dwell not only in fighting but the history) most unorthodox fighting styles are commonly incorrectly believed to be Yoshunken.
Description of Abilities and Inner Workings: Yoshunken is a fighting system that was developed to be quick, precise, aggressive, and powerful. Its history as a fighting art used by a small group of individuals would have it make sense to be a very close quarters, even for taijutsu, style of combat. Technique this style is about: short rapid fire hand techniques, powerful low body kicks, advancing into and taking advantage of your opponent’s space, destroying your opponent with not one but a melody of short yet devastating blows. In regards to chakra and training, this style utilizes internally and externally to enhance the effectiveness of their techniques. The internal aspect of this style’s chakra application is understanding and feeling of internal chakra flow of both oneself and their opponent. When feeling one’s chakra flow they can accelerate the flow or manipulate it to make their body lighter and faster just enough so to make their movements unreadable by the naked eye. When in direct contact with their opponent they can feel not only their body but how their chakra moves and reacts when they use their own movements, thereby allowing the user to physically predict their opponents movements through type of “touch sensory”. The combination of touch sensory and muscle memory intense practice with the internal arts of this style creates a powerful defense and provides perception of opportunity to take the offensive. Externally, the application of this style is conditioning the body for training and combat. The style deals heavily within redirecting attacks but just the same, there exists blocks and defenses within this style that are also second hand offenses. A Yoshunken proficient can render an opponent’s arm numb by blocking an attack as an example.
Principles Teachings:
Chain Techniques: Metaphorically the concept behind these techniques is “machine gun techniques.” The techniques are chained together in such a short succession that the victim’s body loses the ability to keep up. Of course the speed is all dependent on the user of the techniques, however, the added acceleration from the chakra manipulation, if the chain is not broken before the victim’s reflexes become too slow or impaired, there is no defense. As well, if attacking a Yoshunken user, when blocks are chained they gather more momentum and it eventually becomes impossible to land a successful attack if a weak link is not discovered. The rule of beating the chain is not allowing it to get long enough. Chain techniques possess no nature of attack or defense, they are whatever is necessary. So if one starts attacking with a chain they can defend with that same if necessary.
Nebaite (Sticky Hands): This is the epicenter of the internal application of this style. The idea of this practice in the style: “When touched, your opponent is stuck to you and you are stuck to them.” This is where the touch sensory comes into play. Once the user makes contact with their opponent and maintains that contact for a set amount of time they have the ability to stay connected to their opponent no matter how they move. Their body will be able to tactilly feel the chakra flowing through them. Every nuance is picked up on by the user no matter where it comes from and the user can adjust his moves accordingly and even mimic the movements of his opponent (provided the movements/techniques are known by the user themself). Once Nebaite is preformed, it is extremely difficult to unstick. Techniques unknown to user that are preformed can unstick two people. Higher ranked opponents can move fast enough with the use of special techniques (generally anything not free form) to break the connection unless a Yoshunken practitioner has mastered the arts then even higher ranked opponents would need a special trick to break the bonds. Just as well, when more parts of the user’s body becomes connected, the Nabaite techniques become increasingly difficult to defeat and break. If the user can get both of his hands and at least one of his legs connected to their opponent it would take high ranked taijutsu to break the connection (or ninjutsu and/or genjutsu that manage to get the user away or break their concentration). With such a connection and ability, the user puts themselves in a position to defend and attack at the most advantages positions.
Ghost Techniques: These techniques follow the guide of: “Invisible attacks.” Unlike the chain techniques which move faster than the body can see, Ghost techniques accomplish this as well as creating one’s eyes cannot see. These techniques consist of feints so skillfully executed they cannot be telegraphed. Double techniques where the eye and focus are drawn one place and the true attack is executed in the blind spot. The second application of the Ghost Technique is the advanced style of the chain techniques. The chakra acceleration that happens during the beginning of a chain execution is done before the user attack this time. Focusing their chakra in the desired part of the body and accelerating before creating a chain is how this advacaned application works. When the time for the execution happens, the chain sequence is drastically reduced to give focus on short combo generally two to three techniques. It is in this case that the first technique happens fast enough for the eye to see, but just barely and the last one or two techniques are impossible for the eye to see and comprehend before the technique has been executed. These chain techniques lose their overwhelming numbers but replaced with greater speed and probability of success.
Hebiken (Snake Fist): The sub style of Yoshunken. This style takes the characteristics of two animals, one of which being the snake. Thus, when executing Yoshunken techniques the user may take a stance of the snake which emphasizes agility, speed, precision, and venom (vital point strikes). If one choses to take this stance their attacks will be more hindering as the battle prolongs. Techniques, whether attacks or defenses, progressively weaken or “poison” the opponent’s body.
Tazuken (Crane Fist): The second sub style of Yoshunken. This style’s second animal is the crane. Those who take the Crane’s stance take up the characteristics of the animal which are: balance, stability, precision, and flapping wings (redirection defenses and opening up attack points). A crane’s balance is unmatched. They are solid and capable of focusing their center of balance. A crane user will be less susceptible to being moved directly or indirectly making their techniques more firm and powerful, aggressive, redirective and more waring on their opponents. Their flapping wing blocks open up their opponent to body allowing for larger target ranges and taking them down quicker.
Wing Chun (Eternal Springtime): This is the true name of Yoshunken. This is known only to those who have been deemed worthy to carry on the secrets and traditions of Yoshunken. This is the completed system of Yoshunko, baring the techniques and teachings developed by Yoshunko herself. The techniques, forms, training methods, and inner are all at the highest level. In essences Wing Chun entails every method stated above in the Yoshunken style but to a more concentrated and stronger degree.
Example Techniques:
Sen Tokimekasu (1000 Heart Beats)
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Close
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage: 30 (35 w/o weights)
Description: This is the most basic technique of Yoshunken. This chain technique is merely a sequential flurry of punches executed along one’s centerline. As opposed to longer ranged punches, these strikes are shot in short succession, drawn back only about elbow distance from the previous strike. Such a short fire draw back between each punches increases the number of executable techniques in a single second. The technique is a minimum of one sequence (three linear strikes) but can continue on for longer (maximum of 10 sequences or 30 punches). Because of the chakra acceleration within the style, each sequence of punches increases in speed and becomes progressively more difficult to both see react to.
~A practitioner can execute one sequence a second while a master can release three sequences of punches in a second.
~If the chain is not broken by the 5th sequence, the victim’s body becomes numb to reaction until the end of the technique.
Hebi Houdo Jadoku (Snake Haven Venom)
Type: Offensive/Defensive
Rank: A
Range: Close
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage: 60
Description: This is a more advanced application of the chain technique. This is a technique that possesses both offensive and defensive concepts. The user makes use of small yet very fast and firm circular movements within their chain allowing for them to not only strike seemingly closed (protected) areas on their opponent’s body but defend at various angles in a flash. Because the user manages to switch between both attack and defense as needed, the chain is much more difficult to break. This is also a Hebite technique meaning all strikes and blocks are done with the naka daka ippon ken (middle knuckle strike). Striking with this knuckle creates a finer concentration of the chakra into a central point making each strike surge more power into the victims body; thus making each strike and block increasingly numbing to the victim in the areas hit.
~Without the weights, practitioners can chain two sequences while a master four in a single second (execution)
~Without the weights any one successful sequence executed on the same area of an opponent’s body will make that area go numb and reduce their motor movements for two turns.
Hyou Donketsu (Leopard’s Bottom Tail)
Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 35
Damage: 60
Description: This is an advanced chain or ghost technique which is executable one of two ways. This technique is a simple sequence of three strikes either three punches or two punches and a kick. In the former, the user charges up his chakra throughout his upper body as to give his attacks a greater speed once the technique is actually executed. Once he begin the technique the user will launch two straight techniques followed by an inconceivable third blinding strike underneath the last strike. The third strike is near simultaneous with the second strike almost appearing as if they were both thrown at the same time. However, the last one is not seen, it is shot and drawn back all in one foul swoop. In a sense, it makes the victim thing they were hit with the second punch even though the second was thrown in a different area. Because the user telegraphs the second one intentionally the third one is masked. The third strike is also a leopard’s paw strike (hits with the mid knuckles of the fist). The second executable way is to have the chakra flow faster throughout the body as a whole. The user will execute the same two punches but instead of one final punch at the end, the user does a low kick to the thigh or knee of their opponent. The same principles as with the leopard’s paw still exists in this scenario.
~Conducted by a practitioner without the weights, the technique as a whole can only be perceived by Sharingan users with at least two tome or a taijutsu specialist.
~Conducted by a master without the weights, the technique as a whole can only be perceived by Sharingan users of three tome or a taijutsu master.
Nebaite (Sticky Hands)
Type: Supplementary
Rank: A
Range: Close
Chakra Cost: N/A
Damage: N/A
Description: Sticky Hands is one of the most important concepts and techniques of Yoshunko. The technique is first initiated through contact of their victim, which must remain for a short period (half a turn) in order for the pair to become “sticky.” This is usually initiated by the hands/arms or legs but can also be initiated through other part of the body (torso to torso, hand to torso, back, or shoulder) so long as they are on the same level of the body (upper body to upper body, lower body to lower body). Once a user becomes stuck to their opponent, they can physically sense their opponent’s chakra flow internally. This sensory ability allows for the user to follow and essentially mimic the movements of their opponent as if they were mirroring them. As well, they can shift their body along their opponents’ body to different positions or “slide” them so that their opponent has a more difficult time conducting movements or to defend against their opponent’s attempts. The Nebaite can only broken through the use of unfamiliar techniques to the user at a level and speed that is incapable of the user to follow. Until then, the user remains stuck.
~Against single stuck (linked only at one part), Nebaite techniques can be broken with D-ranked techniques unknown to the user if the user is a practitioner. B-ranked techniques if the user is a Yoshunken master. Against triple stuck or more (linked in three or more parts of the body) C-ranked techniques unknown to practitioner level can break the link and A-ranked for master level
~If the Yoshunken practitioner or master is ranked lower than you in tai (tai specialist or master) rank needed is reduced by one.
Wing Chun: Chi Sao (Eternal Springtime: Sticky Hands)
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 40 (-5 per turn)
Damage: N/A
Description: Chi Sao is the true name and purest art of Nabaite. The founder, Yoshunko developed the principle Chi Sao from the original teachings of her ancestors and incorporated chakra. The Nebaite variations are a more watered down version of Chi Sao as this art expands on the original concept of “sticky hands” from being close to mimic your opponent’s movements to furthering your distance. This concept somewhat contradicts the style of Wing Chun and Yoshunken as being a very up close and personal combat style, however it was created to adapt the principle of the Chi Sao to situations where ones opponent distances himself. Chi Sao is initiated the same was as Nebaite, through direct physical contact long enough for the user to gather a sense of their opponent’s chakra. After the initiation is where the external chakra implications of the art come in. The user will use precise chakra control to create a strand of chakra from the connected points of themselves and their opponent. The thread acts as a medium directly connected to the user to feel the nuances of their opponent’s chakra as they would in Nebaite. This results in allowing the user to stay aware of their opponent’s movements even if they or their opponent distances themselves from immediate contact. The same rules of Nebaite apply once this is conducted with a few exceptions. Since external chakra is amplifying the affects, the closer the user is when conducting this specific Nebaite technique the stronger the nuances are and more adaptable their opponent’s techniques are, even if they are of unfamiliar proportions. As well, since only masters of Yoshunken can utilize this variation it creates a higher degree of difficulty in breaking the link of Chi Sao.
~The Chi Sao chakra thread can be broken with S-rank chakra channeled through the threaded area or greater, however, if the user is still physically in contact they can still use the Nebaite technique to stay in sync.
~The Chi Sao link can also be physically severed through higher ranked, unfamiliar techniques conducted by the opponent. If the user is in direct physical contact or within a close hand to hand range, the technique needs to be of S-rank. If Short range A-rank, if it extends to mid-ranged, B-ranked. If the opponent reaches into long range, the Chi Sao link will be disbanded as well.
Wing Chun: Bai He Shu (Eternal Springtime: White Crane Style)
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 40 (-10 per turn)
Damage: N/A (+10 to taijutsu | +15 Tazuken Yoshunken)
Description: This is style of Wing Chun which emphasizes the form of the White Crane. For this style of fighting, the user must have the arm weights taken off and gone through at least 3 turns before assuming this stance. The stance is initiated with the user striking outward with the bent wrist block and opening his arms in a circular motion until the palms come face up and then he places them down in the in front of him. This is a dynamic exercise that increases the chakra flow specifically for the crane. The bent wrists represent the crane’s beak and the opening and circulation of the arms represent the flapping of the crane’s wings. From then on, until the style is ended the user makes all his techniques with the bent wrist and crane’s beak. The chakra circulation intensifies both the natural speed and strength of users taijutsu and with Tazuken Yoshunken techniques, the techniques become even more so.
~Can only be used by Masters of Yoshunken
~Initiating the techniques is done at the speed of one sequence of techniques
~The strikes of the bent wrist, beak (finger tips), arms, and legs are a solid as any ordinary punch or strike as they are enhanced by the strength of chakra, allowing for the user to make use of ordinary taijutsu while using this form and increase the power and speed of the techniques.
Additional Effects and Restrictions:
Practitioner
~Arm Weight: Arm weight training, similar to leg weights only on the arms. Yoshunken students practice with these arm weights to make their hand techniques faster for blocks and strikes. When a standard practitioner uses Yoshunken without their weights their movements become inconceivable to those without at least a two tome sharingan when using a Yoshunken technique (Aside from taijutsu specialists).
Yoshunken Master
~Arm Weight: Arm weight training, similar to leg weights only on the arms. Yoshunken masters constantly practice with their arm weights. Without the weights, Yoshunken masters cannot be perceived by anything less than 3 tome sharingan when using Yoshunken techniques.
~Wing Chun: Yoshunken’s true form. The forbidden techniques, forms, and practices of Yoshunken known only to those who have earned the right to learn the complete system of this ancient art. When a practitioner ascends to become a Yoshunken master they learn the Wing Chun.
-Leg Weight users and EIG users cannot use Yoshunken while they are using weights or activating EIG. One can possess both abilities in the same bio, however, when in battle if one decides to use Yoshunken they cannot activate EIG or take off their leg weights and visa versa.
-Yoshunken techniques are performed at level and speed greater than standard taijutsu when the arm weights are released.
-Yoshunken practitioners and masters can maneuver between Yoshunken techniques on a dime’s time notice as the style emphasizes speed and fluidity of movements.
-Releasing the arm weights counts as a move and restricts the users from using Yoshunken techniques for two turns to adjust (one turn for masters).
Style based off of Wing Chun See Donnie Yen for examples.
