Aoba & Kabuto Link?

I was rereading the confining jinjuriki arc and I found something interesting. I used the search tool and I don't think anyone has discussed it yet, but I think there is some link between kabuto and Aoba. If you look at the following page

Here Aoba, seems to be disappointed in Kabuto, whilst kabuto says Aoba has fallen further than him. What do you think they are referencing here? What could Aoba have fallen from, and why does he seem to be emotionally attached to kabuto in some way? He is about 10 years older than Anko and Kabuto so he may not have been one of Oro's test subjects and they can't have been in the same class, so I don't no :shrug:. Any ideas?

I read that two days ago and I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he knew Kabuto from the Chuunin exams?

Kabuto was still a genin when he entered for the sound, so if that was true than maybe he failled first time round (whether that be as a konoha ninja or sound)? but since Aoba is so much older than him for that to work Aoba would have had to fail a few times to be in the same exam as him, so it's unlikely given Aoba seems fairly skilled.

This could be true when kabuto's dad was mentioned he seemed relatively well respected and revered, so Aoba definitely would have heard about him. Also Aoba jutsu seem to be in the support area in that he can read peoples minds, obscure peoples view with crows, etc, etc. Medical jutsu's also fall into the support category so there may have been some cross over at some point, although this is all pure speculation.

Kabuto used to be a Konoha Genin so it makes sense that they know each other.

Aoba was referring to how Kabuto has fallen toward evil - that he's more like Orochimaru now.

Kabuto was downtalking Aoba saying he's fallen because he's weak and nothing special.

There's nothing special here.
