I'm not sure where this Smoker hate really stems from either.

It stems from the fact Smoker is the closest person to in strength so far so the Zoro fanboys will try at all cost to make him seem stronger by using hype as their basis in argument and overestimating Zoro's opponents in order to give him better feats.
