[Discussion] Anyone Have a theory about Oros Third Edo?

Does anyone have any good theorys on the third edo oro was trying to summon when fighting the third hokage?

Also any idea how Sarutobi was able to negate the summoning of that particular edo?

it was the 4th.... but the summon didnt work because his soul is inside the reapers stomach and you cant make an edo if there is no soul...

This has already been answered. Kishi makes a little mistake - this is that originally he has Sandaime (Hiruzen) say "I stopped the third one" then later on he said the coffin couldn't even be summoned anyway and that's why it failed. Whatever.

The answer is - the coffin contains Yondaime the fourth Hokage Minato. It failed (even though Hiruzen says he stopped it) because his soul is sealed in the Dead Reaper Seal along with all the other Kages which is why they cannot be summoned.

On the front of the coffins they read, "1st" for Hashirama, "2nd" for Tobirama, and "4th" for Minato.

Ugh, why are people so noobish? Orochimaru tried to summon Minato. The manga has already stated this, and Kishimoto did not make a mistake. Sarutobi just THOUGHT he stopped it, but obviously he didn't understand how Impure World Resurrection works because he was too nice to get into such a dark art.

Lol well there was more to the mistake than that. In reality, it was a really big mistake on Kishi's part but it was obvious that he didn't have the whole thing figured out at that point. So in reality, it was really like a finishing of the story in his mind later on rather than messing it up.

But to be specific, since it was the 4th he tried to summon, Oro shouldn't have even been able to get it to that stage. Keep in mind that Kabuto said the body has to be prepared before being summoned. He also explained that once the summoning was successful, that is when the body got stored for summoning. So the only way Oro should have got to the storing stage was if he already succeeded in bringing Minato back.... which he obviously couldn't have. So in reality, it truly is a significant plot hole, but he didn't change anything major in the process... so its acceptable.

Although the evidence at that time pointed to it being the fourth, plot-damage is minimized by retroactively assuming it wasn't the fourth (since that would be impossible based on more recent developments).

Oro probably didn't know all of the details surrounding Yondaime's death. Remember how Sandaime had to explain the Death Reaper jutsu to Oro? Oro wouldn't be able to summon him, so that's why the 3rd summon didn't work--not because of the ninja stars Sandaime threw.

I think people are too quick to jump and scream plothole. Kishimoto is very good at keeping up with his story and tends to plan things out well in advance. He just LED us to think that the Third Hokage had stopped Minato's summon but if you followed the story you could actually catch onto the truth about the Reaper. Kishimoto later likes to spell it out for the dumb people.

Where does it say that you can't prepare the body first, and do the initial summoning of the soul later? From what i've picked up on, just like any other summoning technique, the summon itself would take up chakra. Once the summon is stored, the summoner can call upon it for free any time he wants. Most likely Orochimaru just got cocky and assumed he could summon all three Kages without testing it beforehand. Orochimaru did seemed surprised, "Huh..? It failed?"

This here explains that first you need the DNA to SUMMON the soul from the Pure World. Nothing can keep you from storing the corpse and the summoning scroll inside one of the sarco****us and finish the actual summoning later. Notice Kabuto summoned Madara that way as well. He showed Madara's remains in a dormant state to Tobi, and only actually summoned his soul into the body much later. Madara was surprised that Impure World Resurrection was used to bring him back rather than the Rinnegan.

If anything, this shows us that there might be different ways to work on the summoning depending on what the caster wants at the moment. The summoning of Madara happens AFTER and works the same way as the Orochimaru variation, which means Kishimoto did not make a mistake.
