I heard if you don't have a server room full of comps/graphics cards, it's not really feasible to mine.

It's not something you'd do for fun or just try. You'd have to be serious about it but I think it's stupid.

I agree that it's a big investment, but why do you believe it's stupid? I see many companies starting to take Bitcoin. I heard about btc around 2011 but never really didn't any investigating. If I did I could've been one of the lucky ones in 2013

Mined a few tenths of a bitcoin back before the ASICs came online.

Those pretty much made it so that there really wasn't much point in using GPUs to mine, anymore. Their hash rates are in the Tera-hashes for USB plug-ins when a kick-ass GPU will hit 800 gigahash on a good day. It's only marginally less significant of a jump that went from CPUs to GPU computing.

As far as purchasing - no, I haven't purchased anything with them. When I first started, bitcoins were still traded irrespective of dollar value. Something was 5 bitcoins or so even though bitcoins were $300 per. It was still very much a 'market for the miners' who had no interest in cash equivalency yet a pile of 100 bitcoins they were looking to spend on something.

Never tried mining, nor will I ever.
Bitcoin mining is pretty broken now that they made those cards that mine them ridiculously faster compared to normal GPUs, not sure what they're called.

Mining them is pretty useless unless
1. You want to destroy your PC components earlier than ever.
2. You have those special cards/systems

If you're ever gonna mine any cryptocurrency, just do Litecoin or something, or if you really want to do Bitcoins then get that special thingy (It's expensive).
