Anyone else notice? (Jiraiya's sage mode)

Anyone else noticed that Jiraiya had to literally put on his sage mode markings? O_O. Has that been explained?

good post, but jiraya is indeed able to enter sm without them. Because all they do is gather the energy, not mold it or mix it, or anything. Its very possible though that the time it would take jman to prep sm without ma and pa, and its time it can be used in battle, is so ineffective that it may actually turn out to be a handicap.

But effectively jman would need ma and pa to use a sage mode in battle.
