If you want to get technical, you could at least say that an Uchiha was "the real Hokage" in the shadows- Itachi.

I wasn't specifically talking about the Uchiha. The hashtag was a mere joke. But you can't deny the obvious connection each Hokage has to the Senju. In reality, Hiruzen knew of Shisui and Itachi's love for the village and their will of fire. And he vouched for Itachi's wisdom at such a young age, being "Hokage-like". Why didn't Hiruzen, in order to quell the coup d'etat, just make Itachi Hokage? He was already in his 60's and not getting any younger. Itachi was a perfect candidate and loved the village.

All Uchiha's were killed by Itachi, when Hiruzen was hokage, so you can't expect that to happen, afterwords.
Before that all three of them were deserving hokages.

Which is what sort of pissed me off. Itachi would have probably been the best Hokage to date. His intelligent ideals, knowledge of the world, wisdom and care for the village (in the end he was willing to sacrifice his clan and most of his family for the sake of the village; a sacrifice worthy of a Hokage) would have been perfect.

But to answer the thread topic seriously: The whole purpose of this story is to show that love and cooperation with others is the right way to do things, and that's what the Senju Clan and all those related to them represent. After all, the "Will of Fire" started with Hashirama unless I am mistaken. The issue is that most of the Uchihas strayed from those ideals at some point. Obito redeemed himself, but then died straight after.(plus he had committed far too many crimes). Madara probably realised that he was wrong in the end when chatting with Hashirama, but he was obviously far too late. Sasuke got himself redeemed properly/pardoned, and probably lived a nice life, but Kakashi and Naruto are obvious choices for Hokage above him.(the former due to his experience at the time, and the latter due to striving for that goal as a kid plus never straying from his ideals.) As for Itachi, whilst you could argue that he had the WOF, he found himself in tragic circumstances which lead to the UM. Can't exactly have him as hokage, since the whole thing had to be hushed up. So, none of the Uchihas could be the Hokage within the story, due to the circumstances surrounding them.

He did want it, he eavesdropped on Tobirama telling Hashirama it wasn't going to happen because things were a democracy and no one would approve him.
