Anybody feel like there's a major lack of reference between DB and DBZ?

Growing up I mostly saw DBZ on TV.recently I went back and watched DBZ in its entirety then moved to DB

and i notice alot(and I mean ALOT) of things that happen in dragon Ball are completely left out of dragon Ball z

If you've never seen the original dragon Ball,you would have no idea that

-Oolong was a menacing kidnapper of maidens

-oolong and puar can transform into anything and trick enemies

-goku was grew up isolated from humanity which is why he's goofy

-yamcha and bulma date

-chi chi is betrothed to -goku

And so on.idk maybe it's just me but I feel like im watching something completely separate from DBZ that doesn't seem to have much,if any,refrences

Anyone else feel like this?

Also while on the topic of noticing things,im learning femmefatale always posts off topic,out of contexts things and destroys whatever the main topic was supposed to be

The shows were made more than 20 years apart, I'm sure it's to be expected that a few details will get lost in time. I'm just glad that Toriyama is back in action.

Well yea, but in all honesty I'd rather have lil reference than constant flash backs and entire filler arcs devoted to the previous anime(just flash backs in the manga)

Yeah I just went back and saw that, lol. In that case I couldn't care less. They turned over a new leaf and nothing mentioned is relevant to the plot.

that's not a bad thing at all man. Part of what i disliked about Naruto is that it kept rehashing the same old memories to the point of becoming nauseating. DB wasn't about anything deeper than just portraying good fights anyway.
