I'm not going to paint all war vets with the same brush. Some of them do share their stories openly - though those that do are somewhat rare and yet unlikely to be found on an anime forum.
The kinds of comments here aren't unexpected.
It is a mark of how our forefathers achieved the goal of a world where their children would not know war or much in the way of the kind of strife they had to put up with.
Unfortunately - because 'we' are not our forefathers, very few of us can appreciate the world we live in today or understand the sanctity of certain things. Thus, many of our younger generations and our children will have to endure the same hardships our forefathers did.
All kids have known is a world where war is a game, where reset buttons exist, where 'good' always wins, and where sleep is next to never lethal.
They can't understand the gravity of the world.
But that will all change in the coming years. The fires are already lit and the generations of fallen timber are catching with the embers. War is coming to every corner of the planet and there will be no place that escapes the searing flames.
Those of us who survive will strive to create a better world, succeed, and our grandchildren will be complacent and begin screwing it up, again.
Kind of how it goes.
