Man, my relief been in the bottom of the bottle this year. So I lost 2 of my bro’s and dad so I am the only son/child remaining with mom. Got fired from this high corporate company, decided I didn’t want to work in software engineering(got BSc Comp Eng) anymore so I went back to studying with the recommendations of my friends. As the “smart guy” of the group they threw me in BSc Actuarial Science/Advanced Calculus(highest paying Job in SA), bruh I been outside school for 5 years. Brain seems fried am I getting 50% in modules 💀!

My greatest fear is that they fund me, send about £500 monthly. I just use that money to get drunk and bunk lectures while failing. June is getting near and they will want to see the results 💀💀💀! I can’t wait for June to go back to Cape Town but at the same time June will bring results which I am terrified of

Sorry to hear about that I would say don't get dependent on any vice to get through what your dealing with alcohol is an especially bad one to pick.

Not an alcoholic but think most people have their addiction.

Hope you much happiness and success in life I've had my own issues I've been dealing with all can say keep positive and get some hobbies to cheer you up.

Sorry about your multiple losses. As an addictions specialist I can help give you some of the information you need to facilitate motivation for change. Ultimately it is up to you. I suppose you have been contemplating a desire to stop drinking or you would not have posted this thread. You may prefer private messages, but a few general facts you may or may not know:
1. If you experience withdrawal symptoms you may need to use a medical facility for detox. Alcohol and Benzodiazepine are the only substance in which withdrawal can be fatal.
2. Alcohol, like many other drugs, impacts one's ability to produce serotonin, which is one of the primary neurotransmitters that regulates mood. In the short-term alcohol use will make you feel better due to dopaminergic effects, but ultimately it will cause emotional instability and increased depression.
3. In the same vein; I won't bore you with neurobiology, but for many of the same reasons the parts of your brain that process motivation are impaired. Find ways to produce oxytocin (a hormone associated with pair bonding), not dopamine. You'll find it does much more for your general happiness and sense of belonging. Social interest is an important key in human development and evolution.
4. Drug and alcohol use do not change reality. You still have issues to work through, including substantial grief. When you sober up those issues are still there, and possibly new ones (like failing grades, loss of employment, etc) that will exacerbate the situation. If you feel overwhelmed like you cannot manage all of this on your own get professional help; it takes a stronger person to ask for help.
5. Everyone has something they are addicted to in one way or another which causes impairment in their life. These days there are many resources to help people who are struggling. People may judge, but as the Bible says, 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.' Support groups are a great way to see you're not alone. We all suffer and we naturally gravitate toward the quickest and easiest way to alleviate pain; even if only temporarily.

Is sad for me to read this, i always liked your posts (at least what i read) and i agree that sadness can give that feeling of abandoning of what is most important in life, which is yourself.
Is all up to you to choose the better path and i am sure you want it.
Put your brain at work and let it be awake, your addiction can be cured.
Keep posting here and keep talking. This feels good by itself. Fight and don't give up.
Ask for help, you are not alone.

I am not such a good english speaker to say more.

You have to believe in yourself if you want to succeed. Alcohol is just something that hinders people and just enables your sadness. You've definitely gone through a lot but that's no excuse to make your life worse, you have to quit entirely. Put your all into school if you want to make it in this world.

Hope you get better, Hashi, I miss ya 😭

I appreciate all the replies to be honest. However I feel like it’s already too late to rescue to this year, I might have to transfer to another university to redo this whole this using the Affirmative Action free funds(I hope I get approved). The greatest thing I fear right now is shame, after all my friends did to convince me I am letting them down.

Anyways I have Advanced Statistics exam tonight and taxation tomorrow, statistics practical exam Thursday and Mathematical Modelling Saturday smh! I’ve passed about 3

* Complex Analysis
* Literature
* Maths Modelling

If I miraculously pass everything this week, I will run around naked :lmao:
