Any guess as to how Yahiko was able of calling Obito's bluff on being Madara from the start? I know that the Ame Orphans dealt with deception as shinobi (and it's possible that they dealt with other people claiming to be other people) but I don't know how Yahiko was called BS on it from the beginning.

Now...isnt Yahiko awesome !!!
He is the only guy in the entire manga who didnt fall to obito's lies . so obito came "i am madara uchiha" yahiko responded "thats bs go fu** yourself"
all of the others believed he is madara : Naruto , sasuke , kages , even the so called geniuses ITACHI & MINATO.
Now Yahiko is really a boss !! RESPECT

It is unknown if itachi truly knew if he was madara or not. He may have just called tobi madara, because that was the name he gave himself.
It is known, that minato KNEW that tobi wasnt madara. He thought he was madara at first because only madara had those feats. But later in the fight, he realized he probably wasnt madara.
But that was pretty cool, how yahiko understood it wasnt madara from the VERY begining.

I don't know if he was "smarter" than Itachi per say.
You have to look at upbringing.
Yahiko was a broke, destitute, starving homeless kid from the streets. How many times do you think some adult tried to scam him into work and then didn't pay, said they were gonna adopt him then didn't, try to just take what he had because they were bigger and stronger. How many times do you think the orphan who became a professional thief and hustler in a country full of ninja had been lied to?
Then he meets a trustworthy adult, who trains him in Ninjutsu and shows him that understanding and compassion are real, who taught him how to survive, but also taught him some work ethic.
This kid has a best friend who has all the potential in the world, and he's smart enough to realize that that power could easily be perverted to do real damage.
Yahiko is the worst possible target for Madara/Obito's bull shit. "Too good to be true" had probably been waved in his face more times than he can count, so like Naruto he's decided to make his own way. And he isn't gonna fall for any con-man bull shit.
Never mind a con-man who would wave around the name of one of history's vilest bullies.
I think the fact that he knew about the Rinnegan REALLY made him suspicious.
Yahiko was virtually immune to Madara's ideals just like Naruto and would never have signed on for the Moon's Eye. But Yahiko was irrelevant. Nagato was the target. And Nagato was weaker. Nagato was on that line of having great power but being unsure what to do with it, how to use it. Like Obito and Sasuke, he just needed a moment of weakness to fall. And like Madara before him, Obito just had to wait, for life to treat Nagato like shit too.
Itachi by contrast was raised in a noble elite clan. He knew the struggle of war the pain, the hell-BUT he took up the burden of dealing with it way to early. He was a creature of duty. He was trained to be obedient and to have no ambition like a true shinobi. But it left him with no hope beyond fulfilling his role. Tools don't make decisions. And Itachi was a fantastic shinobi as a tool. And tried to turn his brother into a tool to be used against himself. Itachi took what he was taught and committed himself fully to it. It was only after his death that he realized that he had more choice than he realized and had handled things wrong.
So I don't know if I can say that Yahiko was smarter than Itachi, I think he just had a vastly more fine tuned Bull Shit Meter. His upbringing required it by necessity.
lol.
...as I've said ten million times, you all claim we're tardish, but hold Itachi to the highest standards. Some new super jutsu comes out? Threads about that shinobi being superior to Itachi are created.
Now, of ALL the people who concluded he was Uchiha Madara as well, you create a thread about him being smarter than Itachi.
Everyone who came in contact with Obito believed he was Madara, to some extent.
Yahiko had no REASON to buy into anything Obito said because they had their own ideals and their own plans.
Itachi, however, needed help taking out the Uchiha clan.
Who was the strongest Uchiha around who could help him do that?
The man who claimed to be Uchiha Madara.
Sorry, but if Itachi is stupid for this, then so is everyone else who believed...
....LIKE NAGATO!
Real truth, the exact same thing can be said in most Minato critical threads in the past few weeks.
I suppose that puts Minato and Itachi in good company that most people view them as literally omnipotent and omniscient.
As for Obito fooling everyone, this is hardly a big thing. There was no other available evidence. He shows up, waving Madara's name, has immense power, all of Madara's relevant knowledge and broken Sharingan abilities. The logical assumption is, this guy is probably Madara and we should treat him as such til otherwise.
Minato guessed it based on his available abilities, but disregarded it as irrelevant as he still needed to be taken down.
I've seen it asked why didn't Itachi recognize his Sharingan. I don't know if Sharingan can be identified like the have a fingerprint (a retina scan would be viable, but can they see retinas?) Secondly, no Uchiha ever saw Obito's Sharingan anyway. No living one had seen Madara's.
In the end, he's just dangerous. Considering the damage he's done, it makes sense that he would be treated as Madara.
