I liked Dookie the best, that was my favorite album by them. It was more punk rock.

Though by American Idiot Billy was a way better song writer and had melodies down. Like When September ends has an epic melody.

NOFX, Black Flag, Bad Religion, Propagandhi, Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys are punk.

What are Green Day even rebelling against? Sure, Kerplunk was pretty punk-ish but they're more akin to pop-punk (which isn't punk).
Then they just bent over for the corporates and became sell outs.

No disrespect to anyone who likes Green Day. After all, everyone is entitled to like what they want.
