well i can only speak from my experience...but theres this great quote ive always kept with me since i first started songwriting and its helped me tremendously in my life with painting and overall artistic approach and perspective

“You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
its really truly truly true, i know this in my bones. you dont run out of creativity if your a creative person, its just a way of thinking and you get better at it the more you think that way, ideas stop becoming good once you think you cant do any better, become full of yourself, complacent, or just overall not interested anymore. then you stay at the same level
another thing ive learned is
art is a gift. gifts are meant for giving, by the time im done with an album or painting i never enjoy it as much as the person who receives it. its also bigger than myself or whatever point im trying to get across, people dont actually give a **** about me, its something they see in the work that they see in themselves that they connect with..half the time people miss whatever i was going for when they tell me how they feel about whatever
i also experiment a lot, i try to for a least a few hours a day to just be as creative as possible and see what happens, i know everyone isnt in a position to do that but its not like im showing everyone everything i release, theres some stuff i know people just wont get. that could be my own fear of failure or being seen as a bad artist but theres a balance in it. i can bullshit and relieve whatever im going through spiritually and psychologically and keep it to myself but every artist wants to be appreciated for their work. so i make stuff purposely trying to connect with others, in that process you learn what people see in you that they see in themselves or want in themselves. then you can mix in your own oddity and push your own feelings and ideals more transparently, im not saying sell out your beliefs but try to appeal to an audience with already established similar mindset
but in the end ive learned any art is more for others than it is for yourself, or should i say its more gratifying when its for others than it is when youre just doing it for yourself. if youre just gonna be selfish with it theres no point imo...just my two cents, hope it helps you on your journey
