Given what we know, can you think of another way the coup could have been handled?

Things we know:
1. There was a probablilty of war.
2. Shisui had failed using his MS.
3. Time was limited.
4. Danzo had some interest in the Uchiha.
5. People weren't very fond of the Uchiha.
6. The Uchiha were unaware of Itachi giving info... I think.

Shisui didnt fail using it. Danzo took one of his eyes before Shisui had a chance.

Another way the coup couldve been handled is if the Uchiha wouldve stopped playing the victims and went to talk to the Hokage about other roles in the village hierarchy

Confront the clan leaders about the rumors of a coup and tighten security. With the history of tension between the clans, this could have just been another point of contention and not the mass slaughter that happened.

That would not solve the cause of the tension between clans, but it might have stalled a coup.

Tighten security...? The Uchiha made up close to half of the Konoha forces... :|

If a civil war between the uchiha and everyone else would have led to so many people being killed that invasion was an absolute possibility, then no amount of extra security is going to do anything.

Although... Why didn't the uchiha just separate from the village? They already lived on the outskirts and had little political power outside the police force, they could have just receded from the leaf and made their own village.

A false flag operation would have been best. Create a fictional terrorist organisation that are after kekkei genkai and get them to attack the leaf and kidnapp uchiha and hyuga children.

The uchiha will feel threatened and side with the village so the supposed threat can be defeated, this will not only bring the uchiha closer to the village due to a common enemy it will also dissuade them from attempting coup that will only weaken them and make them easy targets.
