People always praise people of European ancestry looks to the highest in our society. The perfect girl is skinny, white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. If you have dark skin you aren't as attractive in society. The internet is always pushing this ideal look that you should follow. If you have a big nose or kinky hair you are ugly. When you see these modeles and magazine covers they always represent these ideals. Every time you try to Google something on images. It is always white people on Google images despite "white people" being a minority in this world. When you always see white and see white looks being glorified on all platforms. Self hatred happens. And that isn't just with black people. This happens across the world. In India colorism is a big thing.

People in China, Japan and other eastern Asian countries getting eyelid surgeries. Trying to be more western. It is really sad

A pity that some people are foolish enough to hate their looks.

As long as one isn't burnt, scarred or otherwise deformed there is no need to change your appearance. This is mostly low self esteem, caused by primitive cultures and beliefs.

Of course that's just my opinion, if people want to change their looks then I can't and won't stop them, it is their life.

It isn't about people stopping people. It is called self hatred that should be talked about. Why is everyone trying to be light? You see no one saying I wish I was dark. It is brainwashing from a early age

It was an example. She always said how she was insecure about herself. There are plenty of people trying to bleach their skin other than Lil Kim trying to have that "beauty"
While it's true that Western beauty standards cause people to feel insecurity about the way they look, I don't think saying "Lil' Kim is an example of problem" is fair to Lil' Kim. Colorism is an issue, but you should allow people who experience colorism to vocalize how they experience it themselves (i.e. the video is fine). The rest of the OP is a little too close to victimizing for my taste.

It's not our fault that she thinks she's too ugly (which she was and still is).
Only people who have a problem with self-confidence do plastic surgery.

It's also not our fault that we look the best.

See, if OP wants to make an example of how colorism is a problem, use people like this as examples instead.

How is it victimizing? Is it not the truth.

Are you denying the fact countless of people are denied roles in movies in photoshoots due to their skin being too dark. Someone I know said they went to apply for hand modeling. And they said you probably wouldn't get a lot of jobs due to your hands being to dark. People are conditioned. There was a test on black kids about which doll was the good doll and which one was the bad one. They pointed to the darkest one as the bad one. And the good one as the white one. And when asked which doll they wanted to be. They all pointed to the white one. It is the sad reality

See, if OP wants to make an example of how colorism is a problem, use people like this as examples instead.
It was a visual representation. I don't understand why you are so stuck on it being lil Kim. I can show plenty of other people. It makes no difference

I don't have a problem with the fact. I have a problem with you making Lil Kim the poster-girl for this fact. At least provide quotes of what she said on this topic.

Victimizing = saying someone is a victim of X without letting them express it themselves.

I think the whole standard beauty crap needs to be dropped and embrace all kinds of authentic beauty, what's the point of having everyone looking the same?(in terms of body structure, skin colour, facial harmony/features). Life will be boring.

If you like lil Kim well sorry Lol. But I can post her picture and use her as an example if I so wish. Lil Kim is just a product of how we are taught

I don't even care about Lil Kim. XD I'm just saying that saying "These people are acting this way because of this" without letting them say so themselves is the same as saying "Black cities are violent because of gangsta rap"

Lord Jesus. The video above already said it. You can look plenty of documentaries. I have met people irl saying I wish I was lighter. And the reason is obvious. The whole light skin vs dark skin mess is obvious problem derived from this that started in slavery. The topic isn't lil Kim but self hatred that is learned at a early age.

If you quote me again saying lil Kim I'm not replying. Since this isn't about her

I don't know what's so hard to understand. In the OP you provided a video that actually showed what people were going through in experiencing colorism. Just extend the same courtesy to Lil Kim or whoever else you decide to use as an example.

I'm not even in this thread denying that colorism is real and makes people do things like get colored contacts or relaxed/lightened hair. xD But I also know that not everyone does things like relaxing their hair because of beauty standards. Some people just want a change or to look however they want.

The video was good, the picture of Lil Kim was iffy, that's all I'm saying.

Than stop making the thread about her. And start dicussing the topic.
