As a past follower i really enjoyed how it was revealed who Mitsuki was in the One shot. Also, that page you posted is not the official translation, the VIZ version is a bit different especially on how Boruto puts things, kind of turns it from a GAG to shock.

It is not a gag. There is nothing funny about it. Gag face doesn't exist in Manga iconography.. This type of eyes actually mean Frightened or embarrassed when used.
