Iruka is a chunin according to all three databooks, so we can be certain he hasn't ascended in rank.

According to the first databook Anko lead Iruka with one point in stats. In second and third Iruka got the lead by one point because Anko hasn't been updated since the first databook.

I have a hard time believing he'd lose low diff. Can Anko even escape the movement barrier (?) Iruka used on Naruto?

Yes I believe ur right, if Anko has intel on the confinement barrier since the barrier needs to be in a specific range before it effects the rendered target, Anko is pretty useful when it comes to long range attacks she wins mid diff at most....iruka was getting owned by mizuki he's not all that strong lol

Snakes > Iruka, plus, his barrier seemed to need proximity and required the opponent to stand still (considering a member of the Nara clan had to get him before).

I really can't believe that what he did against Mizuki was all he could do. It just seems idiotic.
But I guess he is weaker than Konohamaru. D:

Iruka's pretty much nothing but a weakling chunin who could get owned by MIZUKI.
I think he would cast some jutsu, then Anko would cast some jutsu. He can tell she's stronger, and he runs for his life. Anko catches him, and he begs for mercy. Anko has no mercy. Iruka manages to escape and surprise her like Orochimaru did in 2nd round of chunin exam.
Iruka barely lives.

Frankly though, I really want her to wake up and do something. She was a fun character.

I dislike how the only snake user that probably could show us some non-creepy usage of snake jutsu never is seen again..

I agree, she seemed like yet another female character with tons of potential... She should of done something else in the story.

Try reading THE WHOLE THREAD. I already brought that jutsu up in an earlier post
