How to set your Avatar, Signature, Profile & Other Personal settings?


Go to your user icon on the right hand side top and click on it for the drop down Menu​
You must be registered to see images
If you haven't set your avatar, it shows you first letter of your name as one.​
You must be registered to see images
When you click on it, it will pop up new window for you to upload your avatar.​
You can now upload an image from your computer.​
Once uploaded, you can also move the avatar using your cursor, to fit it better on your profile.
Similarly if you scroll down that menu, you find other options for Signature, Profile Customisation, & other personal settings.​
While setting the Signature please keep in mind that:​
Normal members
- Max dimensions for their signature image/s is 600 x 300
(3 Max lines, 1 images, 2 Links, 10 smilies, 500 printable characters)​
Premium Members
- Max dimensions for their signature image/s is 600 x 450.
(6 Max lines, 2 images,4 links, 20 smilies, 800 printable characters)​
This means content and images must be within this limit. You can resize images,using one the many online image editors or ask for help in GFX section. If you are using a YouTube video or the likes, in signature, please always keep it within spoilers and do not set it on auto-play.​
Failure to obey these rules may result in a warning/infraction which depends on the moderators discretion. If a moderator asks you to remove or fix your signature, do so as soon as possible. Failure to comply may result in warnings. Serious infraction of rules or further rule breaking may result in a ban. All images on AnimeBase are required to follow forum rules- thus no inappropriate images allowed.

Kumi and Kin both are AnimeBase currency used for certain forum activities or AB shops.​
It's earned by posting on forum​
  • Kumi in RP sections and used for RP transaction &
  • Kin in general sections like in forum discussions and forum games etc. You can use kin to buy gifts for your friends or name change or premium membership etc for yourself.
(Different sections have different settings for how many Kin you earn by posting. For example: 1 kin per post in Forum Games & 3 Kin per post in M.A.C Base discussions. One can also gain it as an award for winning a contest or RP tournament.)​
You can check your personal account using the drop down menu under the button "Shop":​

How do I change my username?


There are now three ways to change your name on this forum:​
1. Become a Premium Member.​
You can upgrade your account by applying here.
2. Win it in an AB contest or one of forum events.​
You can win first place in any of the contests here: Contests
Or participate in our forum events on occasions with this offer.​
3. Buy it with the forum currency "kin" in the shop
If you have enough kin collected by posting at forums you can use them to change your user name.​
Click on the " Shop" button on navbar and choose "Official Kin Shop". ( or click here for direct link)
Scroll down to find the name change option and "purchase" it.​
The permissions to exercise name change will last for a day and you may do so within that period.​
Check to make sure the username you wish to change to is not already taken. You can do this by searching for the name in this list :​

Note: Once you have been renamed, your old username will no longer exist and may be recreated by someone else!​

How to include an image/videos in a post & align them?

How to include an image in a post
  • Obtain the direct URL of the image.
  • If the picture is on your computer, upload it to an image hosting website such as TinyPic, Imgur, Photobucket, etc. then grab the 'direct URL' after you have uploaded it on any of those sites.
  • Now to insert your URL between the [img ] [/img] tags
How to Align Pictures in a Post
You can align the image with text using BB codes.​

How to embed a YouTube or other Video in a post?


Embedding a video from YouTube or other video sharing sites in posts cam be done variously:​
Copy & Paste URL to the video using the Link button. It let's you add link, and embed YT video automatically.​
You must be registered to see images
You can also use "Insert" button to add videos from a number of other sites that allow sharing, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook videos etc.​
  • Click on the "Insert" button on from the formatting options
You must be registered to see images
  • Click on the option "Media" on the drop down menu
  • Copy & Paste URL to the video in the pop-up box.

What are Warnings and Bans?

A warning, is issued when a member breaks one of the Forum Rules. It is a permanent record that remains connected to your account. It can only be seen by you and the staff.​
Each warning/infraction has an expiry date which can be viewed on your personal profile under the 'Warning' tab. If you don't have any warning, the tab doesn't show up on your profile.​
The points accorded depends on the severity of the rule you broke. Further rule breaking with active points may result in severe warnings or ban.​
Normally we start with warnings and encourage the user to pay attention to the forum rules. Still, depending upon the situation a rule broken can have more than one point at a single go and moderators can issue customised warnings or ban instantly if situation warrants it. A single infraction may lead to you being banned forever if the rule broken is serious enough.​
Persistent non-compliance with the Forum Rules or extreme cases such as messages containing hate speech or pornography may lead to a ban without further warnings. The sock puppet accounts made to troll or to bypass bans are instantly banned as well.​
The administration reserves the right to permanently ban any member whose overall behaviour is detrimental to the community without prior warning.​
Should there be a legitimate concern about the validity of a warning/infraction, please make a formal thread in the section titled Private Questions Account Related - the appropriate staff will post as needed.​
If you feel that a ban was unjustified on the forums, you can make a formal appeal to the forum staff in the Private Questions Account Related Section and it will be reviewed. Alternatively, you can use the Animebase's Contact form to contact the staff. Make sure your account is logged out before using this form.​
Just make sure you have read the forum rules and you can enjoy browsing the forum in peace!​

How to report
Posts, Threads , Visitor Messages and Private messages
that break the rules?


If you see a post/thread/VM or Conversation that breaks the or is inappropriate; you can easily report it.​
How to report:
Posts and Threads:
On the bottom left corner of all posts there is a report button.​
Clicking this button will take you to the reporting page where you have to put a small message about what is wrong with the post. After that you can click 'Send Report'.​
VM's (Visitor Messages/Profile Posts) or Member Profile:
  • If you receive a VM or see a VM on someone else' page that breaks forum rules (such as advertising, flaming, inappropriate content, etc) You may click the 'report button located on the bottom of every VM.
  • If you need to report the member profile, there is a report button on top right corner.
Conversation (Private messages or PM):
If you receive a PM that breaks forum rules or you don't find appropriate (such as advertising, flaming, inappropriate content, etc) You may click the 'report' button located on the bottom left corner of every PM.​

Where is my thread?
How to track any thread?
Is my thread been deleted? Why?


► You can use "Find threads" on the navigation bar, under drop down menu list "Forum" to easily track your threads or click here: Link to Find threads
► If you cannot find your thread while looking at the forum please check your threads first by clicking on the option mentioned above. It may have been simply removed to more relevant forum.​
► In order to keep track of a thread, you can subscribe to it by click on the button "Watch" which is located in the top right side of any thread. This option will notify you when a new post has been made in that thread.​
► While we regularly move threads to their proper forums in various sections, it's your job to find the correct one in the first place. Please remind yourself that posting threads in the wrong section or duplicating existing topics is considered SPAM.​
► In case you cannot find the thread and it's truly disappeared or you are getting a message that 'you do not have permissions to see/access', it's been deleted/trashed.​
Why has my thread been deleted?

Posts in violation of the Global Forum Rules can be edited or deleted at a moderator's discretion.​
• If the thread itself is in violation of forum rules or too many posts in it are breaking rules in one way or another, the thread is closed and/or deleted.​
• If a discussions leads to users becoming too personally involved, as in cases of heated debates, flaming and trolling etc. - the thread may be closed without further notice at a moderator's discretion or may be instantly deleted. Warnings/infractions will be given along with it when deemed fit.​
• Similarly, cross-posting identical threads in different forum/sections and duplicate/similar threads on any topic may result in deletion of the copied threads, or with the threads being merged.​

Should there be queries regarding a thread, please contact a moderator or post in the private section, i.e. "Private Questions Account Related".​

How do I receive an AB award?


► AB has a wide array of awards that have been won/earned in the past.
► The different groups include:
  • New Contests winner awards (You must participate and place in any of the AB contests)
  • Special events awards.
  • Retired contest winner awards (handed out 2008-2015)
  • Misc Forum awards (For being a helpful member or contributing positively to the forum)
  • RolePlaying awards (Handed out for various RP reasons such as winning a tournament or contributing to the system)
  • Staff-Only (You must be a member of the staff to be eligible for these awards)

Who are the staff members and what do they do?
► The staff is comprised of selected members whom maintain the site and handle matters involving the forum.
There are Founders, Administrators, Global Moderators, RP Moderators and Designers.
► A list of Forum Staff can be found by clicking here: Staff Members
Regular Moderators, have permissions limited to portions of the forum. Meaning these staff members are mostly dedicated to specific section and moderate everything there only. e.g. some of them are limited to certain discussion section, others to roleplay section.​
○ RP Moderators deal almost exclusively with the AnimeBase RolePlay sections.​
Global Moderators have permissions for nearly all sections of the forum, in addition to having access to innumerable moderator features normal moderators lack.​
○ Administrators are the second highest authority on forums and have specific responsibilities. For example RP Administrator for RP section, while General sections have different Administrators and their own tasks.​
○ Founders are Super Administrators. Founders, the highest authorities, have the ultimate discretion over all facets of the site, not limited to just the forum but also the front page.​
The staff try their best to keep the forum a clean, family-friendly environment where people from around the world can discuss anime while enjoying all the other sections this forum has to offer.​

How do I become a staff member?


When the administrators see that they are in need of more moderators, they will open up the moderator applications with the guidelines and template. If you fit the criteria given & you are interested in applying for the position, you can do so there.​
This appears as a forum subsection.​
Please keep in mind that, while we appreciate presence of all the wonderful and capable members in our community, staff selection process is held on need only basis. We may not be able to pick everyone who fits the criteria at a given time.​
Note: Pay attention to the criteria. e.g. if the application is for specific time zone or for RP etc.​
What not to do:
-Do not create a thread asking to become a moderator.​
-Do not visitor or private message the staff for the same.​
-When the s/mods say 'no' to you after contacting them to request a moderator's position do not contact the admins.​
