Kekkaishi; good story, has everything from love to action, IMO it isn't as famous as it should be, but that might be because it's a completed series(since a while back). It's only 52 eps though, if you want a more epic story to it, then read the manga

You could just watch 'Black Lagoon' and feel like a bad*ss afterwards!
