full metal alchemist. the story is good, about as lighthearted as naruto (serious with funny thrown in) and the fights are good. also roy mustang is a badass.

[Chakra Wizard]

Samurai Champloo has great action and visuals, and it's one of the funniest anime ever. Same with Baccano! and Durarara!!, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is pretty strong throughout, too. Cowboy Bebop is pretty old, but that's a lame excuse for anyone to refuse watching it (it's great in the other two departments and for its time, it had the best visuals on the market). A couple others'd be Wolf's Rain, Sword Art Online, Trigun, and Highschool of the Dead. The last one wasn't that funny to me, but its action is great and it definitely has some of the best animation out there.
