Depends on what you like. A good romcom in school with psychological themes is the ef series... if you want school, romance and tragedy you could watch clannad... if you want something action based then hunter x hunter is good... comedy definitely wallflower or Nagasarete Airantou or hare and guu - they're hilarious! ummmm i could recommend more but i think based on what you don't like this should be enough, they are not gory at all

edit: ahh sorry missed out the game anime or manga.... 1/2 prince is a game manga and the .hack series are good

All of those are about samurai and samurai x has a romance in it, I wouldn't recommend gintama if you really really really really like romance it's just about samurai and alliens
