That first pic is merely bad animation. Its not the anime thats childish its how most of it is portrayed that is.

The cosplayer was a child, children are childish. You could always watch darker, better animated, anime made for older folk

not quite right that only happen outside japan, in Japan the kids watch/read Naruto Uncensored and yet they can understand it,
