I think that people who dub anime not only translate the meaning of the words, but they also inject new cultural understandings and artifacts that are relevant to the dubbed language. By doing so, the anime not only loses some of it's original meaning, but actually adopts new meaning that is sensitive to the viewers. xd
I only think this because, i am bilingual in Bengali and English, having learn both simultaneously. I sometimes watch Bengali films with English subtitles, only to realise that some literal translations also have indirect meanings that are specific to my culture.
I dont know a word of Japanese, so i cant tell about Animes. How accurate are the translations, if anybody knows Japanese?
In a sense, can some dubbed animes be seen as being a new story for a new audience?
