A father in Baton Rouge on Sunday shot at his 18-year-old son, striking him in the buttocks after the two got into an argument over a lack of orange juice in the home, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Eldridge Dukes, 58, faces charges of attempted manslaughter and illegal use of a weapon, according to police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The incident occurred early Sunday after the father and son began arguing about the lack of orange juice at their home. Several family members told police that Eldridge Dukes, 58, and his son got into a heated argument inside their living room around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

As the argument escalated, Dukes' son broke a porcelain vase and Dukes armed himself with a handgun and began chasing his son throughout the home and out the front door.

Police say Dukes then pursued his son on foot, fired at him several times and ultimately struck him in his buttocks.

Police found Dukes' son collapsed in the driveway suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Baton Rouge General Mid City Hospital to receive non-life threatening treatment.

Bail for Dukes was set at $60,000, according to jail records.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the father-son relationship was already fragile long before the incident. It's hard to believe something trivial like this would make a man go berserk with a handgun.

It would have been more fitting if they had gotten angry over tomato juice, as the red colour would symbolize the sheer rage of the dad, and the blood that was obviously splattered all over the floor...................

But seriously, it's a horrible incident all-round and it's highly likely that the two of them had a volatile relationship beforehand, as I doubt that something so trivial and petty could cause a father to want to shoot his son with such vigour.
