When Obito was first revealed as Tobi, and and Kakashi asked him why he's is doing this now, Obito says it's because he let Rin die. Now we know it's the day before Rin's death (new chapter) and seeing as it was the day before when this plan was truly started, it's clear that he isn't starting this war because of Rin, he's initiating it now for that reason.

Wait, what do the days have to do with Obito's motivation? You said that reason. What is that reason?

He probably did it now because it's a fitting day due to the aniversaries and all. But what does it have to do with his primary motivation?

Sorry, if it was unclear, I'm saying he initiated the plan at that point because it is near the anniversary of Rin's death, that reason. Kakashi asks Obito why he is doing this now and he said it's because you let Rin die. Everyone interpreted that as him stating his primary motivation when it's become clear that that's not the case. He said this himself and the fact that this new info has come to light makes what he said back then clearer

Right. So Rin's death, Naruto's birth, and this shit that's happening right now is on the same day but different years. I see.

So the fact that Obito attacked leaf back in the days on Rin's death anniversary and Naruto's birth day was just a coincidence?

Rin's death day is same as Naruto's birth day. Preparing Mugen Tsukuyomi on the same day. Coincidence?
I don't think so. Kishi is just trying to be symbolic. I wouldn't be surprised if SO6P death day was the same as well.

what he is trying to say that why obito chose this day to end everything is because it the same day Rin died and thats the same day Obito also died inside and he will and this world the same day that coincidence happened.

im assuming that the day that rin died, is the day that tobi went apeshit and attacked the leaf..minato probably wasnt able to protect rin because he was doing stuff for the birth and taking care of his own business and thats why obito attacked the leaf..or probably just minato specifically. it makes sense because for obito...rin was the most important thing, so in turn hes going to take minato's most important thing...kushina and naruto

Rin's death was a year before.

It's just a coincidence, Obito attacked Konoha that day because Kushina was giving birth not because it was the anniversary of Rin's death.

He attacked that day because Naruto was born that day...
Just a coincidence...

Unless Obito had something to do with it. I dunno...
He got Kushina and Minato drunk one day, and they... OK, not going there.
Then he used a medical ninjutsu to delay the childbirth...
Too far fetched ?

omg this is what I've been saying.

Naruto's birth made the seal weak so it was the opportune moment for Obito to pounce and extract Kurama. The fact that this happened on Rin's date of death was purely coincidental.

He attacked the village because he knew that Kushina was having a baby. The Rin bday thing was just a extra reason to come for Kurama.

1) Obito went to see Rins Gravestone on the anniversary of her death.
2) Kakashi was already there and Obito overhears him talking to Rin's gravestone about the specifics of the plan to safeguard Kushina while giving birth.
3) Obito kidnapped Kushina shortly after giving birth to Naruto.
4) Obito released the Kyuubi from Kushina.
5) Kyuubi attacks Konoha.
6) Minato & Kushina sacrifice themselves to seal the Kyuubi inside Naruto.

Now enough with the random ramblings....

There's alot of misunderstanding about the "Because you let Rin die" phrase. It gets interpreted too literally. With that phrase he just means that in his opinion the shinobi system is rotten, so rotten that she had to die and Kakashi couldn't protect her. I don't believe he directly blames Kakashi, he blames the system. Rin was just the catalyst to make him have his extreme opinion on the world and how he wants to change it.

Can't believe people go to such extreme's to justify Obito's..

Noone finds it a wee bit suspicious the day Obito decides to go outside after all that time with grandpa Madara THAT'S the day he just happens to stumble upon the scene where Rin dies? REALLY? noone?

Obito needed a push to get started - he sure got it.
