Wealth inequality works just like inflation. There's a point where it gets out of control and the economy beings to feel the negative effects of it.

Japan for instance has wealth inequality but the rich and the poor are not so far apart as they are in the U.S.

In the U.S. the poor are very poor and the rich are mega rich.

In the U.S. about half the population is considered poor whereas as 90% of Japan are considered middle class.

The U.S. is ranked as one of the worst, if not the worst in wealth inequality among developed countries.

How does making less than 42'000 a year(20$) an hour equate to poor?

Poor is relative. to a bachelor with no family 42'000 is fine.


It's also only counting individuals, not households.


My parents household at it's height (my brother and myself living there and working and both my parents working) cleared 200k a year.

These numbers are used to create a controversy where there is none. You can't see the forest for the trees.

The real number that is unbiased is the empirical 14.5%

To further illustrate my point, for a single male, the poverty line is 11.5k. you are adding 30k to that and calling that person poor. that's crazy.
