Depends on the individual ninja, there are jonin that used to be in the anbu but aren't anymore. One of the strongest leaf ninja is still a genin

I personally like Anbu with thier masks n all. Plus, they are in charge of protecting their repective kage so yeah i say them. Why else would weaker shinobi be put to protect the important kage lol

Nope, anbu are used to protect the village, more like village vigilante. They use codenames for their missions though. Normal strong known jounins are the ones who go about with the kages...Only Danzo had used his anbu because he has complete control over them.

ANBU = everyone eligible for suicide mission, scapegoat, the one who will be dead first in any S-rank mission, the spy...cannot reveals themselves to anyone...not very popular career....

Jounin....famous, dashing, the one that could run away but still claims the best ninja title, no need to worry of anything coz thats what ANBU for, the one that always get the best pay...

What sucks being an ANBU is that your identity has to be concealed and also suicide has to be done to not let enemies get the intel.

I agree with Airwind, you can get a worthy title being a Jounin and ANBU's are pretty much Jounin level ninja's.

ANBU is just a specialized group. Jounin is just a rank.
Its like asking if you'd want to be an army ranger or be a sergeant. Lots of people are both.
If had to choose I'd go with Jounin anyway. I like training people and leading.
