Yes, good people. It seems a lot of you are implying the same possibility, because it's kinda obvious... Sasuke vs Naruto is here.

Possibilities:

Naruto, you're a nuisance​

• Naruto is a drag for his objectives. If Naruto is alive, Naruto may disagree with his decisions in the moment he gets the title of Hokage. The existence of Naruto, 'Sasuke's past', must be eliminated.

Naruto, you mean nothing to me​

• Sasuke is not behind Naruto. He is behind Kurama, the Bijuus, and the Juubi. Sasuke wants to carry all the work for himself, become Hokage, and he won't stop until he fulfill its objectives. The last chapters revealed that Sasuke wants to destroy the Juubi, so, it's natural to weaken the Kyuubi by killing Naruto.

• Sasuke became a second Naruto, and he is aiming to eliminate the burdens Naruto is carrying. The first step was going to the war and protecting the village. The second step is going back to the village, so Naruto's promise to get him back will be fulfilled. The third step is to aknowledge Naruto so the Past Naruto (the one in the picture, one who still wasn't aknowledged) completely disappears. In order to eliminate all these burdens, Kurama MUST be extracted, because the War is another of Naruto's burdens, and the Bijuu are the main cause.

Dear people. Kishimoto opened these three possibilities for us, and these three possibilities brings us to Naruto vs. Sasuke. I must thank him for being so badass at the hour of playing these smart wildcards, this makes me thing Naruto as a manga is full of surprises.

Not necesarily. If you read carefully, he only wants to get rid of his past. A lot of people thinks this means to kill Naruto, but this way of thinking contradicts Itachi's will.

I'm betting for the second/third one... Sasuke wants to get rid of Kurama, and not killing Naruto (As for Naruto who wanted to bring Sasuke's back to Konoha and not killing him).

What really concerns me is that image on Sasuke's mind where Naruto was scratched on the old Team 7 photo. Yes, his words may lead to several different theories about his intentions but when we consider those words with that image of Team 7 photo, then it looks like he still thinks of Naruto as someone who should be erased as well with that "past".

Or I may be wrong about my conclusion, and I reallly hope I'm wrong because I'm tired of Sasuke's obsession about killing, erasing etc. But that image there is an important clue

It seems like your viewpoint is quite near to my second possibility, where Naruto isn't a big deal, but the true target is Kurama (who is the main cause of the following Uchiha's massacre).

I truthfully believe that it is a combination of option 1 and 2. Sasuke knows that Naruto wants to protect everyone, even the Bijuu, and that he won't give up on his dreams. He knows that he has to kill Naruto in order to achieve his own objectives. In order to do that he obviously must not care for Naruto. In my opinion, this was clearly illustrated in the panel showing the slash through Naruto in the Team 7 picture. Sasuke wants to make sure that bond is completely severed and obtain his goals.

Kishi has been foreshadowing their showdown since the Valley of the End fight in Part 1. Both parties have known that one or both will have to die for there to be a resolution. It is for this reason that I don't think Sasuke wants to protect or help Naruto. He can't do that and still kill him. The two things don't mix.

It was only after Itachi explained about Shisui and they fought Kabuto together that he even remotely wanted to ask questions before acting. Before that, he was completely content to throw all of Itachi's hard work out the window. Another thing that leads me to believe Sasuke has the intention of killing Naruto is the panel in the new chapter that shows Naruto's expression and him saying "Sasuke...". This was right before Sasuke talked about "deleting the past." That tells me that Naruto sensed something inside of Sasuke that wasn't good.

My view on this is that, Naruto & Sasuke now have the same goals, The Hokage title & peace. I believe when he said about erasing the past (***********), with the slashed photo image of Naruto. To me he is indicating he is the one who wants to erase the past.

If he didn't wish to kill Naruto, then why say to Obito he wouldn't be the one to erase the past, he will instead aka Naruto because Obito was going for Naruto.

It is inevitable Naruto & Sasuke will have the final showdown. Whether it for the Title of Hokage or whether Sasuke challenges Naruto, after Naruto already been made Hokage.

Sasuke wants good things to happen but he will do it in the wrong way. Obito is behind Naruto, that is right... But the Juubi is behind Kurama. At this rate, nobody can tell if Juubito is mainly controlled by the Juubi or Obito, so we can't jump on conclusions so easily. We only saw that Obito hasn't adapted to the Juubi. Come on, the answer of Sasuke seems to be clear, but his means are the main trouble right now.
