You don't have to look far to guess the subject responsible for Goku's indifference to the whole situation they're in: Gohan.
His doubtless faith in Gohan's capability isn't clandestine at this point. In the cell games, he was just as laid back and when Gohan was worried and all, he showed no fragment of being in the same worry in which Gohan was. I vaguely remember, but I think he even went fishing with him?
This can be akined to what is happening right now. I know it's kind of vice-versa this time around as they haven't even trained, but Goku has "watched" Gohan fight and remarked he's gotten "really strong" and when Beerus reminded Goku that their universe was in danger, he replied that they were alright as long as Gohan would be fighting.
Gohan only trained with Piccolo, who's not even that strong, and he's already greatly impressed Goku and got a clean reverence from Zen-Oh (I know some of you might think, well Goku's goodhearted and he was only trying to make him feel better) but Goku is also not a hypocrite. His honesty is probably his strongest trait, and he definitely was impressed by his progress, considering he had to get his powers back and even improve.
His fighting expertise can also be why his being impressed can mean Gohan improved a lot faster than his expectations and exceeds even the Saiyan limit, which Goku probably based his expectation on.
Now, we don't know what training Gohan will get, but considering the infinitesimal time they have, we can assume the Hyperbolic Time Chamber will be their training venue. Which is also where Gohan's abilities got honed when he first turned into a Super Saiyan.
My best bet is his training with Goku will push him further than before, and he will "probably" surpass him. But it won't be revealed until at a later time during the tournament, and just like in the Cell Saga, it'll be a spur of the moment thing: perhaps this time it'll be the earth being in danger that'll compel him to harness all of his powers instead of the torture of his friends. It can be many reasons which will have to be extreme and perilous, as Gohan only pushes himself past his limit when it's really necessary.
Before I finish, I must say it's just speculation and not a prediction. It could be my fanism of Gohan, but it does seem like his redemption after being turned into a weakling for so long is coming soon. It could be in the tournament or after, but hopefully, we'll see it in the tournament.
What do you guys think?
