Well, after finishing the manga an immediate idea sprang into my head. I was thinking- with people as strong as the two protagonists one on one fights are no longer viable for enacting change.
So I wondered- a fanfic idea was that of a theoretical scenario put into motion by the peace-time that has reigned over that world. A character I've had in mind decides for intellectual subversion rather than one of power. In the peace time, ennui spreads and his position convinces him the world would be better off under certain political regiments. He is deeply inspired by thoughts present in Plato's Republic on the welfare of civilization and decides to gather likeminded invidivuals who would devote themselves to constructing a framework with which they could enact total reform of society in the long run. They thus oppose the current political program not for reasons already expressed in the manga, but because they believe the long run of peace in society will bring about the capacity for infinitely multiplied destruction.
So, the main character attempts to gather intellectuals as opposed to ninja. He gets into cahoots with Orochimaru, who is supportive of such activity (Orochimaru thinks he is using him as a pivot, but this man isn't stupid. He knows he's being duped, but also understands Orochimaru's wealth of insight and assistance).
The main character is not skilled in ninjutsu. He has, with the help of a medical ninja and jinton user placed a mask over his face that fuses with the flesh around the temples. His eyes are covered by shades built onto the mask- he has a space where you can see his mouth (he does eat after all). The mask and the remainder of his armor serves to prevent assassination attempts. He wears a suit of armor that is magnetized and responds to certain chakra levels that allows him to *deflect* and dodge attacks (they bend around the armor in most cases).
His plan is to recreate history. To end what he sees as Kali-Yuga and set the wheels back in motion to before the before (
So, this is not so much an action packed/romance filled romp, but a deeply ideological one. His ultimate plan is to compose a rival system of ninja, and the story would take place through a variety of stages in the development of this plan- though you would probably encounter familiar faces/names (such as Orochimaru) along the way.
